Resources, Budget Preventing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 On Wii U

The next big-budget Castlevania game doesn't quite have enough financial muscle behind it to make it onto Nintendo's latest console, according to publisher Konami.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Konami producer Dave Cox said that the extra budget and need to add around 20 people to developer MercurySteam make a Wii U port infeasible for the moment.

"Game development is about managing resources," Cox told Eurogamer. "You say to yourself, can I take on another 20 people? It's just a nightmare to manage at this point. That's the only reason why we're not doing any other formats."

Cox didn't rule out a future Wii U port, but at launch the game will only appear on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

  • Awwhhh.. That's sad... Well on the good side.. There's Castlevanina: Lords of Shadow - Mirrow of Fate coming to 3DS soon. The demo came out today! Its AMAZING!!! I luv this demo!! :D
  • Way to show absolutely no faith in the WiiU Konami! Glad to see you're totally willing to feed off the 3DS's success while simultaneously throwing the WiiU under the bus!
  • Well, at the very least it will prevent it from getting delayed to everyone.

  • Well at least it's coming out that is all that mattters. I did play the mirror of fate today. AMAZING!!!! The demo was such a tease but at least it's less then a week away from the release date so not to much longer!!!!
  • I was probably going to get this on 360, anyway, but it's still disheartening to get more news about lack of Wii U support. It's getting harder and harder to justify my early adoption of the Wii U.
  • Hey, this might sound crazy, but Kickstarter maybe?
  • Damn it!
  • now that sucks

  • The financial cost of development moving ahead for PC/Durango/PS4 and Wii U has me worried about the future of so-called "AAA gaming."
  • A shame to hear. Hopefully after launch it can get ported to the Wii U so those gamers can enjoy this game.

  • I call BS.
  • Well, this is unnecessarily negative. Lords of Shadow 2 was never planned or even rumored to be on Wii U, so it's not surprising that it isn't going to make it to the system.

If it does well, there's a good chance it'll get ported.

  • I will get this game on PS3 but for those that only have a wii u this ducks. I wanted to buy a wii u but decided to wait and as things are looking I will totally skip the wii u and buy the PS4.

  • I don't really mind this. I really didn't like the first Lords of the Shadow. I have no plans to get the sequel on my Xbox360 or PC either.
  • No one takes Wii U seriously. It's all Mario games anyway, so just let it fade into obscurity.
  • thats sad but understandable

  • The less Lord of Shadows we get on consoles, the better. We'd like some Castlevania games! You can keep your God of War, thanks.

But I am fair, I will withhold my opinion on Mirror of fate until I can actually try it.
  • That's sad news. After playing the demo of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, I would've probably bought Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 if it was going to release on the Wii U. At least I could play it on my PC if it comes to Steam! :D

  • I'm sure it will make it's way to all platforms, eventually. If I was Nintendo, I would be pitching in whatever I could to make this happen. People love Castlevania and it's a shame the Wii U has to wait.
