Rumor: Microsoft & EA Preparing Partnership

While exclusive third-party games are becoming more and more a thing of the past, there's talk that Microsoft and EA are teaming up for something for the next Xbox.

Two anonymous sources (neither of whom, unfortunately, work for Microsoft or EA) have told CVG about the partnership and that details will be announced at the upcoming Microsoft event to reveal the company's next system.

Speculation is that while it won't be for an exclusive game – EA traditionally doesn't do that – it could be for exclusive DLC content. This would certainly conform to current trends. Last week, at the PS4 reveal, Activision and Bungie announced exclusive PS4 content for Destiny, and presently, EA and Sony have a timed exclusive deal for Battlefield 3 DLC while Activision and Microsoft have the same for the Call of Duty series.

  • And not a single *** was given that day.
  • I'm willing to bet it's a timed exlusive type thing either with games or DLC.

  • Wow I completely misinterpreted this when I read it.

Still, I dislike both Microsoft and EA.

    Meh.
  • Let the hating begin! I heard it was EA that took a leak in punch bowl! ;)
  • Madden exclusivity.

  • Probably for timed DLC for Respawn's shooter.
  • Exclusive origin service on the Xbox in an attempt to compete with Steam perhaps? Still nothing can beat the Steam summer/midweek/weekend madness sales... And when Steam Box drops, well...
  • Dear god..... no...

  • It ain't no telling what this will consist of
  • oh man i cringed so hard

  • If Microsoft wants to stay relevant in this market, they need exclusives and ASAP. This kind of deal will help in the long run, but they need to show stuff that can convince me to buy the system. And I am talking about something besides the usual Halo, Gears of War and Fable. I myself will soon be shifting to pc gaming, so they better show some exclusives that deserve the purchase.
  • At most this is going to be a timed exclusive.  EA was shown at Sony's conference as a partner

  • Probably why EA wasn't at the PS4 conference.
  • Curious to see if it will be a new IP. That would certainly be different for EA.

  • I have no problem with this at all. Carry on gentlemen.

  • Two big money lovers in bed together? Seems pretty legit to me
  • While we don't know what its for, be certain that it will piss fan off.
  • So Hitler and Stalin have reunited ?
  • Honestly, I think that's a bad pair up on Microsoft's part. Much of the gaming world dislikes EA (even though we keep buying their games, mostly because EA owns everyone now) and their money hungry day 1 DLC, Rent-A-Severs, and micro-transactions. And I'm fully aware that all of those are optional and that EA is a business, but there over all "we don't give a ***" attitude is what makes me so mad. But if I had to guess, this partnership is going to be like a DLC exclusives or those stupid timed exclusive they do for BF3. I'm sorry, but having so many different release dates for 1 DLC map pack is ridiculous; week 1 PS3 premium, week 2 xbox premium, week 3 regular ps3, and week 4 regular xbox. Too much man.
  • PLEASE keep all EA content on the next Xbox. Less watered down products for the PS4.
