Writer Teases Something New For Walking Dead

Telltale Games' interpretation of The Walking Dead was kind of a big deal last year, scooping up dozens of game-of-the-year awards. Thanks to that success, Telltale has revealed that another series of the episodic game is on the way. Meanwhile, the wait may not be as bad as you may think.

According to Walking Dead writer and consultant Gary Whitta, Telltale has a little something in the works that may bridge the gap between episode five of the first season and the start of season two. Whitta revealed the info on IGN's Up at Noon show, saying "I can tell you what you already know, which is season two is coming. There’s not much to say because it really is very early…it’s a way off. But, knowing that it’s a way off, and knowing that people are hungry for more Walking Dead…there may very well be more Walking Dead from Telltale before season two."

He clearly refers to it a bit later as something that's played, which rules out a passive solution like a digital comic. Whitta and Telltale Games' founder Dan Connors are hosting a panel on game writing during SXSW Interactive, which is held from March 8-12. We could be learning more about whatever Whitta is talking about at that event.

  • I'm interested and have no idea what it could be. Can't wait.
  • All I can say is. take your time and don't worry about us being impatient. There first series has a lot to live up to and I'd rather they took their time to make sure it's done just right.
  • Yay
  • GOOD.
  • Morgan and Duane. Let's make it happen, Telltale.
  • having never watched the TV version of the show or read a Walking Dead comic, when I tired The Walking Dead Game it was already on episode 3,I was hesitant being that it was already a comic book than TV show... Now im a full blown Walking dead fan all thanks to the game, its my hands down GOTY and probably the biggest supprise of an amazing game Ive played since ICO on PS2,My girlfriend loved telltales Sam&maxx games and that also being a point and click game i was all the more wary of trying the game out.But The Walking Dead Game isnt about graphics or really even about gameplay, its about immersion in the world, connecting with characters while going through the zombie apocalypse together.I cant wait for Season 2!
  • Oh goody. I can't wait. :3

  • If I had to bet, my money would be on a mini-comic series.. possibly revolving around the intermediate period between episode 1 and 2, where the group meet up with Mark and how that came about.. no doubt he wasn't alone when they found him.
  • This is probably the best game that Telltale has ever made. I wish as much love went into their Jurassic Park game.
  • Cool.

  • well, take your time, but not too long...i'm excited about season 2 but don't rush a bunch of crap or glitch-fest to appease everyone *cough Assassin's Creed 3*...
  • Keep the writing as solid as season 1 and I will gladly play it.  Meanwhile, I'm patiently waiting for season 2 - I'm still wondering who's going to be the main character.  Take your time on it and make it count, Telltale!

  • I enjoyed season 1 of the game better than the show and the comic. I won't be waiting for all episodes of season 2 to release like I did season 1.

  • I wish they'd made the first season actually paced a bit better, tbh. If they could actually use the time to pad out the awkward gap after episode 1, and the forced ramping of tension for episodes 4-5, that'd be great, but I know that won't happen.

Note, people who read my first sentence and then skipped the rest: I said I know that it won't happen.

Nonetheless, I probably won't get it, at least not right away, as I'm starved for cash thanks to Dead Space 3. Not that it matters much, I need to focus on work and school anyway.

  • awesome can't wait to hear more

  • Can't wait for Season 2!

  • I still need to play The Walking Dead!

  • While I doubt you could really top a story as emotional and amazing as Lee's attempts to protect Clementine, I'm still VERY excited for Season 2. Just remember what made Season 1 so awesome; tough decisions, characters you can love and hate, and the little moments where you can bond with characters. Teaching Clementine how to shoot a gun was a great bonding experience, for example.

  • Telltale, just give us season 2 and we will be happy. It's killing me what happens to clementine.

  • he only difference was that JP:TG had Dinosaurs, Less Dialouge choices, and less Different-model choices. Oh, should it have had guns too? I mean, after all that is what makes a perfect game right?
