The lights are on
A few days after Arkedo released its charming downloadable game Hell Yeah! Pocket Inferno on iOS, the studio has decided to call it a day.
Best known for quirky titles like Hell Yeah! Wrath of a Dead Rabbit (read our review here) and Bang Bang Mini (review), the studio started running out of funds and decided an amicable split was in the best interest for everyone involved.
"It has been decided to disband the team when there still was enough money to get good conditions for everyone, rather than replace permanent positions with interns and a bad atmosphere," co-founder Aurelien Regard wrote on his blog. "As in any human matter, it is important to know when to stop, to get a clean situation. It is precisely because we did this at this time that everyone from Arkedo is still having a good time together, even after it's officially over."
Even though the studio is shutting down operations, we haven't heard the last of Arkedo. The team has two new games in the can, which it plans to release "soon."

That sucks. I really liked their games.
Hell Yeah! was a fun, colorful take on the platformer genre....And an easy 100% for Achievement whores like me!
Man, that's a shame. Still glad to see these guys will get compensated at the end, and hope they find jobs. Want to see at least one of the guys dish out experiences like Hell Yeah!
I'm yet to finish Hell Yeah!, because the controller setup is retarded on the pc.
When I can afford a new xbox controller I'll hook it up.
Wow, I bought Hell Yeah back in September but didn't finish it. I started playing it again two days ago and am almost done, so this really sucks. It makes the game feel...empty. Kind of like I'm playing a ghost of the studio.
Can we get some good industry news...?
The industry seems to be getting hit hard a lot more then I expected :/.
Darn.
Hell Yeah should've been better, but this is sad news nonetheless. Unlike some studios shutting down (Visceral Montreal), these guys had promise. There was potential there to make some fun games, very off the beaten path of "shooter shooter shooter". It would've been nice to see what they cooked up next.
And here I thought we were celebrating.
Wow... Thats very sad.
That's a shame. Big Bang Mini is one of my favorite DS games. At least this decision was for amicable reasons and there's no ill will within the studio.
Ironically, I got the urge to replay Big Bang Mini a few days ago and have been playing daily since then.
kinda surprising/sudden ? maybe they team members didn't get along well enough or something happened :/ ( no idea how many ppl work there but i don't picture that many)
Hell no! Hehe, sorry for that, couldn't help it.
This is sad, but I'm glad they shut down on their own terms. But it's nice to know we 'haven't heard the last of Arkedo.'
