The lights are on
January's NPD numbers are in, and it was a historically rough month for Nintendo's new console. Gamasutra estimates that the system moved between 45,000 and 59,000 units for the month. These figures are especially noteworthy, as they mean the Wii U had a worse month than Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 have had in their entire existence.
It's obviously not great news for Nintendo, but the publisher seems aware of the problem. Recent Nintendo Direct streams have addressed the lack of excitement, and they hope for a strong 2013 with new Virtual Console support and the announcement of big games like Mario, Mario Kart, and a Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker remake.

Give me Xenoblade sequel or any Monolithsoft games and I'll buy it, give me Mistwalker exclusivity count me in. Else, sorry but no thanks
Their sales will improve once more games release for it, so i'm not concerened. Disapointed it hasn't sold more, but what can you expect with a new console that has a small library. I for one would love to see Nintendo release a new IP this E3. I think that'd help inject some freshness into the Wii U.
This is disappointing, but I think the Wii U will find amazing success later on.
A price drop would probably help increase sales.
I'm waiting to see what the PS4 and NextBox are going to throw at us. If the guts aren't that powerful, then I'll probably buy a Wii U.
sign of the times. People don't have as much disposable income. Zelda 360 sounds nice about now.
I honestly would have bought one already, but all of my money is ear-marked for other needs. As soon as enough cash is freed-up, I'll be snatching one up, along with The Wind Waker HD remake (one of the best games in the Zelda franchise, and of that console generation).
I only have 3 games on mine. One came with it an I play it with others for a few laughs(Nintendo Land). Another game which is just bad, somewhat fun if I act like an idiot while playing (ZombiU) and one game worth playing (Mario). The point is, they aren't many games out yet. I probably would have been better off waiting to get my Wii U but oh well. Once the games start to pick up I'll use the system more, and maybe the sales will pick up.
The Wii U looks awesome, and I will buy one the moment the system gets more awesome exclusives (2D/3D Mario game, Mario Cart 8, Super Smash Bros 4, Game and Wario, Yarn Yoshi, Zelda HD Wind Waker, new Zelda IP, new Metroid IP, Xenoblade, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101).
I may just switch on over to Wii U and PC completely this upcoming year, if all the rumors of both the PlayStation and Xbox consoles are true.
Can't wait until there're cool games to buy. Once wind waker HD hits, my money's gone.
This will teach them.
once they start showing off more triple A titles sales will skyrocket. Theres literally only two games to play on it, an ok entry in the new super mario series(Im sick of that series) plus a *** zombie game, no wonder why the wii u sold bad theres nothing to play on it.
