The lights are on
With the announcement of the next PlayStation right around the corner, rumors and leaks have already started to circulate in anticipation of the February 20 event. Meanwhile the Wall Street Journal has announced that it believes Sony's next console will be able to stream PlayStation 3 titles off the cloud.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Sony's new console will stream old games over the internet using technology from a company Sony acquired last year. This means that the PS4 won't have the same backwards compatibility issues that the PS3 struggled with. Last year Sony announced that it had purchased cloud based gaming company Gaikai for over $380 million, so this all seems to line up. We'll be excited to get confirmation on all this news next week.

As long as I don't have to purchase anything else, then it's all good
I' would rather be able to use discs or download the games, but as I long as I don't have to buy them again I will give it a shot.
Could be super cool! They would have to know who already bought a game though. A code or something that comes with a game. Could a code to use already exist? It better I guess.
I'm guessing a test dummy for their next console.
hell my internet has a 15gb a month limit i cant stream games sounds like bs who wants to play a game that loses connection or buffers and loads ill take digital downloads anytime over streaming
eh~ cloud!? hope they made it "able to play tru PS3 disks".
Bring this to the Vita Sony an ye shall be demigods
It better, that is the only disappointment I had with PS3, especially when my PS2 crashed for good. I had to sell on my PS2 games.
Ohhhhhkay.... I still prefer discs but whatever.
This is amazing. I'm just wondering how to avoid buying my PS3 games again? Maybe you can put your PS3 disc in order to confirm that you have and own that PS3 game so you can stream it! Along with the DLC!!! I'm getting wait to exited. I just hope I can still play my PS3 games without having to buy them again. I'm almost sure Sony will figure something out :)
i'm glad the 20th is next week so, hopefully, some of these rumours/facts can be put to bed. between the inherent issues of streaming from a cloud-based service, to that monstrously large new controller...i'm about ready for a big ol' dose of reality to come straight from sony.
If it isn't backwards compatible, this would be an amazing feature.
YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! OH, THANK YOU SONY!!! YOU LISTENED TO MY VOICE!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
But I'm guessing its not free. I'd rather just play a physical caopy with backwards compatablility.
Too bad you'll have to re-buy the games, for a nominal fee
I have some blazing fast internet that I pay a pretty penny for, so streaming old games is right up my alley, but only old games. I only want to own physical copies of new games.
Yea, except you'll have to pay for the game again.
Full faith restored
this makes me happy, they have google hyper fast internet in the midwest currently. I suspect in another yr it'll probably be mainstream.
