See Dead on Arrival 2 In Action On Nvidia's Project Shield Handheld

Nvidia's Project Shield hopes to bring a handheld console experience to the Android marketplace. In the company's latest video, you can see how NV3 Games' Dead on Arrival 2 has been enhanced to take advantage of Project Shield's powerful Tegra 4 processor.

NV3, with help from Nvidia, has added some very nice graphical enhancements to the game, including dynamic lighting and object physics. About halfway through the clip, they toggle between the Shield-enhanced version and the original so you can see the contrast. They also reveal that the Project Shield version will be able to handle multiplayer as well.

  • I see dead on arrival every time I look at Project Shield. http://instantrimshot.com/
  • am I the only one that would use this only when taking a dump? Then again, I usually just use my 3DS ^^
  • God, that handheld is so ridiculous looking. I just can't take it seriously.

  • I'm not looking for any new consoles to fail, but I just don't get the appeal here. I'd rather Nvidia make a Ouya competitor - a home console. Attaching controllers to smartphones is clunky and stupid. Does it make playing these games better? Maybe, but that's not the point. The point is, developers shouldn't be thinking with virtual buttons (and replacing virtual buttons with tiny controllers) in mind. They should be CREATIVE and INNOVATIVE and learn to make a game that controls well within the limitations of the hardware.

Games like Horn did it*, and games like The Drowning also do it**. Not to mention countless DS games that, apparently, the entire western development world ignored. All those turn-based RPGs (Suikoden Tierkries, Final Fantasy Four Heroes of Light), all those action games (Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance, Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands DS, Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword), all the weird Kirby titles (Cursed Canvas, Mass Attack)... there were so many games that worked WITH the touch screen, not against it. Why are there legions of Android developers ignoring that, and working on yet more stupid shooters? DO WE NOT HAVE ENOUGH SHOOTERS ALREADY!?!

    * - Phosphor Games is working on Awakened now, btw. People; head over to their Kickstarter and pledge some money. It looks AMAZING Link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1312036782/project-awakened

  • ps4? in a few days...i hope
  • I don't mean to sound like a jerk here but I can't imagine that many people even buying this. It looks so uncomfortable to even HOLD in our hands.

  • The Project Shield keeps getting better. They better have enough games for it. (cough cough-PS Vita)

  • please nvidia, stick to computers, that is where the money is at:)
  • Sooo pointless :D  Looks cool, but pointless.

  • Well, I prob wont buy this.

  • looks good
