Take-Two Officially Takes Over WWE License

by Dan Ryckert on Feb 13, 2013 at 12:07 PM

After the THQ implosion last month, one of the lingering questions revolved around the fate of WWE video games. According to Bloomberg, the smoke has finally cleared.

Take-Two (owner of 2K and Rockstar) has purchased the rights to all future games featuring the WWE brand. The report also states that Take-Two will be hiring developers that worked on previous games in the franchise. WWE is waiving their $45 million claim against THQ, and will now be receiving annual royalty advances of approximately $7.5 million through 2017.

I was a big fan of what THQ did with WWE '13, but I wondered where the series would go from there. If they can hand it off to 2K and give WWE the production value they're known for with the NBA 2K series, it could really be something special.

No announcement regarding future games in the series has been made as of yet.
