Star Trek The Video Game Flying Into Stores In April

by Louis Garcia on Feb 12, 2013 at 08:05 AM

Star Trek is a hot property at the moment, and developer Digital Extremes is set to release Star Trek The Video Game to give fans another way to jump into the sci-fi world – specifically the U.S.S. Enterprise – before the new film arrives in May.

“One of the great joys of video games is the opportunity to take audiences to places that are only hinted at in traditional film and TV projects,” says Brian Miller, senior vice president of Paramount Pictures and executive producer of Star Trek The Video Game. “Giving gamers the opportunity to explore the U.S.S. Enterprise is one of the more exciting aspects of our video game and one that we can’t wait to share with Star Trek fans and gamers worldwide.”

Players take on the roles of Kirk and Spock as they battle Gorn – an enemy introduced in a 1967 Star Trek episode. The developer hopes to capture the authenticity of the ship, and has worked closely with the 2009 Star Trek film creative team to reach that goal.

“The Enterprise is not just a ship – she is one of the most important characters in all of Star Trek. Our goal from day one was to make sure that the Enterprise looks, feels and even sounds as true to life as anything players have ever seen,” says Miller.  “Hopefully, players will come away feeling as if they’re ready to be part of the crew themselves.”

The game will release on April 23 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
