Star Trek The Video Game Flying Into Stores In April

Star Trek is a hot property at the moment, and developer Digital Extremes is set to release Star Trek The Video Game to give fans another way to jump into the sci-fi world – specifically the U.S.S. Enterprise – before the new film arrives in May.

“One of the great joys of video games is the opportunity to take audiences to places that are only hinted at in traditional film and TV projects,” says Brian Miller, senior vice president of Paramount Pictures and executive producer of Star Trek The Video Game. “Giving gamers the opportunity to explore the U.S.S. Enterprise is one of the more exciting aspects of our video game and one that we can’t wait to share with Star Trek fans and gamers worldwide.”

Players take on the roles of Kirk and Spock as they battle Gorn – an enemy introduced in a 1967 Star Trek episode. The developer hopes to capture the authenticity of the ship, and has worked closely with the 2009 Star Trek film creative team to reach that goal.

“The Enterprise is not just a ship – she is one of the most important characters in all of Star Trek. Our goal from day one was to make sure that the Enterprise looks, feels and even sounds as true to life as anything players have ever seen,” says Miller.  “Hopefully, players will come away feeling as if they’re ready to be part of the crew themselves.”

The game will release on April 23 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

  • I hope it's good, but I don't have much hope in movie tie ins.
  • Hopefully it's good. I've been waiting for this game for a long time.
  • Your going to post this after the aliens review today? Lol no but seriously Not saying this game will suck its just that I hope it doesn't disappoint.
  • I'm a HUGE Trekkie, and I am unbelievably stoked for this game. Will I be disappointed? It's very possible, Star Trek video games have not been great historically. But this looks like a competent enough game, and being able to actually explore the Enterprise is something that I've wanted to be able to do forever. • Yea, no.

  • It might be good, but movie games don't have a great track record.
  • I hope it features space exploration and ship battles (like the naval missions in ACIII)
  • goty contender
  • I hope game is good.

  • I am hoping this will be good, but I am thinking it will completely suck. Sorry, but after the news on Colonial Marines, the small amount of faith I had in licensed games is gone. Only a new Arkham game can save me now, which may or be not be coming this year.
  • So long as it's good as Warframe, I'll have high hopes. Digital Extremes have repeatedly proven that they're good developers -- hell, if it weren't for their work on the MP mode, there wouldn't have been a reason to buy Homefront.

  • Do you get to control the enterprise as well and do some exploring/ship combat?
  • The first movie with Chris Pine was really good. I'm looking forward to the sequel. I want this game so bad!
  • Love Star Trek, never interested in Star Trek games. And J.J. Abrams keeps missing the point of the franchise.
  • Please dont suck...please dont suck

  • I'm excited for this one. Getting it on PC.

  • Hopefully this game will be more on the "Arkham" side of the continuum of licensed games than the "Superman 64" side.
  • I hope this game is fun! Loved the movie :)

  • With the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines today, I don't think I'm on board for another licensed game. Gearbox said they'd stay faithful to Aliens and give us a true, polished fan experience, which they really didn't so Digital Extremes saying that they're going to give us a faithful adaptation of Star Trek makes me a little uneasy.
  • Not enough lens flare.
