Making-Of God Of War: Ascension Trailer Highlights Vo-Mocap

Santa Monica Studio has released a making-of video highlighting the cinematic process used for the creation of God of War: Ascension, including a tactic called vo-mocap, or voice-over motion capture.

The latest God Of War: Ascension trailer uses vo-mocap in order to bring the story of Kratos to life. By using vo-mocap, actors can come together during the scene and act out the characters in real time so that the movements and voices feel more natural, heightening the playing experience. Distances between the actors give them a better idea of how to react and where their character is in the scene. This way, the game becomes more cinematic and the animation process is made easier, skipping a couple of steps that would require extra work. Vo-mocap is a step in the right direction and represents one likely scenario of how stoyrtelling in video games will be produced in the coming years.
