Bioware Co-Founders To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

BioWare co-founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk will accept Lifetime Achievement Awards during this year's Game Developers Conference.

Dubbed the "BioWare Doctors," Muzyka and Zeschuk met while attending medical school at the University of Alberta. Their shared interest in video games led them to full-time careers in the industry, where they produced influential series including Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Dragon Age at BioWare. Muzyka and Zeschuk stepped down from BioWare last year to focus on family and solo projects.

The GDC awards are held yearly in San Francisco to celebrate the world’s top video games and developers. This year's Choice Awards will be hosted by Double Fine President and CEO Tim Schafer, while Andy Schatz, creator of indie game Monaco, will be hosting the Independent Games Festival Awards. The Game Developer’s Choice Awards ceremony will be held on March 27. For more information, visit the official website.

I've loved Bioware games, they usually make the top-notch of the industry! Glad to see this, but dang... A Lifetime Achievement Award is truly something!

Why? For SELLING out to the EA devil which has set into motion Bioware's slow and painful gutting.All the while releasing nothing but pure CRAP for the past 6 years.Instead of making KOTOR 3 they released a stupid crappy BORING FLOP of an mmo which FAILED LESS than year.WHY?Because they put MORE time in the VA than content and game play.Then there is dragon age 2.NUFF SAID.Mass Effail 2 was a very dumbed down crapfest of an"RPG".They took what made the first an rpg and gutted it. The only thing the second had going for it was the upgraded biotics grunt and zaeed.Mass effail 3 was a BIGGER letdow than TOR AND DA 2 conbined.It was the abortion of the entire franchise.So yeah they deserve an award for single handedly DESTROYING their own company by letting themselves be bought and raped by EA.CONGRATS to you two idiots.Oh and THANKS for leaving us with casey DUDSON.That guys a bigger megalomaniac than you two are....AND THAT IS SAYING SOMETHING!

Man I hated to see these guys leave game development. They were the driving forces behind some of the best games I've ever played. Congrats to them on the award. There are a lot of big mouthed developers who do a lot more yapping than great game making, but that wasn't these guys.

It's too bad they aren't with Bioware but I'm sure they left it in good hands. It's nice to see such talent getting recognized within the community, especially when everyone knows they deserve it.

They are only receiving this reward now because of their abrupt retirement from the industry. It's unfortunate as there is so much more they could have done to continue innovating in this industry. Their talent and vision will be missed.
