Guide To Survival Video Shows Lara Traversing Tomb Raider's Island

The reboot of Tomb Raider releases next month, and if you’d like to know how you’ll explore the game’s island, the newest Guide to Survival episode should help.

The video details gear gating mechanics, fast travel, and the basecamp – as well as how the shotgun becomes a weapon used for opening up new areas, and not just for putting bullet holes into things.

  • I was pleasantly surprised to hear that this game will be opened world. Launch day here I come!

  • I'm curious as to how this game will shape the rest of the series from this point on. All I know is I would like to still explore her mansion for goodies. Has been one of my favorite things to do since the original Tomb Raider. I never knew that this game had this large sort of open world thing going for it. Seems quite neat and may feel far more "explorative". The leveling up and backtracking gives me a Farcry + Metroid vibe that I'm all about. Glad to see this is shaping up well.
  • I haven't been following this game very closely for quite a while now but it looks like it should be pretty fun! I wonder if I'll be able to play it though... my wife makes fun of me whenever I play a game featuring a female character as the lead o_O
  • Open world? Sounds reassuring enough.

  • Genuinely excited for this game. The rope arrow seems like a cross between Connor's rope darts and Batman's grapple gun... totally bad-ass.
  • utterly stunning! Very vicseral. Travel and base camp seems very organic and smooth. Interacting with the environment looks to be a giant portion of the fun and innovation in this title. I can't express how excited I am and have been for this title. Cheers Tomb Raider fans! We are close to experiencing the greatest chapter in Croft lore.

  • The water graphics look kind of gay. And so do the "Wavy flag" graphics. But the gameplay looks really, really fun. Can't wait to break a pole that's keeping the cabin in balance and send everyone inside to their doom.
  • This looks awesome! Now to choose which system to get it for...

  • I bet if Nathan Drake went through her hell he would actually retire. Also, I hope this game turns out well for all parties involved.
  • I'm never buying/renting Defiance, thanks to GI's incessant need to bury it into all content everywhere. F that game.
  • The exploration seems like the highlight of the game, since I haven't enjoyed much else that Crystal Dynamics has revealed about this reboot. Combat is still looking a bit ridiculous though, they would have been much better off pitting Lara against a handful of enemies that she'll struggle to defeat, instead of a horde she seems to slaughter with inexplicable ease.
  • This is looking more and more fantastic!

  • This trailer does seem more open world, but that term is used so loosely these days... Is it Farcry open or FFXIII open? Very big difference.

  • The Uncharted touches look like they work well for Tomb Raider. Saw some Assassin's Creed III and Red Dead in there with the hunting elements. Wish more games had this kind of open-world environment. Uncharted 4 to have free-roam anyone?
  • Are they seriously making a fast travel system into a huge selling point?

  • For the longest time I had no idea that this was going to be an open-world title; I thought it would be more akin to the Uncharted series.  My excitement for this game just went through the roof!

  • Fast Travel? What is this mysterious and innovative new concept?!

  • So, it is Uncharted+Far Cry 3+Just Cause 2. Got it.
  • Did they really just spend a minute explaining fast travel.

  • Oooh! Tomb Raider looks great. The scavenger hunt is fun, too.
