Activision To Debut New Skylanders

Activision is putting internal studio Vicarious Visions in charge of the next Skylanders game, dubbed Swap Force.

The game – which doesn't have an official release time frame yet – lets players combine the top and bottom halves of 16 Swap Force characters for 250 combinations. These unique combos can also be played with their existing Skylanders characters.

Apart from the Swap Force Skylanders, the game also features 32 "core" characters (16 new Skylanders and 16 new versions of fan favorites) and eight new LightCore characters.

Skylanders Swap Force will be shown at NYC's Toy Fair 2013 starting Sunday, February 10.

  • Wait a minute , there is a Toy Fair ?
  • Think we'll see if the Crash Bandicoot redesign that was shown earlier this year has anything to do with Skylanders. I kinda do hope it does, because, hey, Crash and Spyro!
  • "Oh god. Insomniac (I can't figure out how it's spelled, or pronounced right), you need to to find a way to get Activision off guard, and get Spyro back." Said by the fans of the classic Spyro.
  • I just got into Giants so I'm probably going to check this out. So far I'm liking the new Skylander designs they've shown off.

  • This will be interesting.

  • Awesome! Love me some Skylanders. I hope the swapping figures have more to them though, like if they are two different elements, what does that do? If it's just an extra gimmick it will be very disappointing.
  • I want to get into this stuff. I love pokemon and this game also has cool little figurines that work universally, plus it seems like a neat little action/rpg lite dungeon crawler.

The only thing is I know once I start I'll probably blow way too much money.

  • I wish I wouldn't have sold my collection of Skylanders, this game is actually quite fun.

  • The swap force figures sound awesome, and it's good to hear Actvision swap studios here. Like with Call of Duty? I hate to admit it, but it seems like a good way to keep things JUST fresh enough to avoid "Guitar Hero'ing" them into the ground. Besides, VV (and N-Space) have been quietly making better Skylanders games for 3DS for two years now (in the handheld games, you CAN JUMP). Looking forward to this...

Could this mean, Toys for Bob is working on a new Crash reboot? Or a next gen Skylanders?

  • I guess my son will be bugging me about this when he hears.
  • Already, that didn't take long.
  • AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YYYEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!

  • *sigh*

  • I'll be interested to see how this sells compared to Disney Infinity.

  • Seems like the last Skylanders game came out only a few months ago.
  • I haven't even collected all the first ones yet! I really need to step up my game.

  • Yup. That's to be expected.

  • Lolwat.

  • Cool idea, but man they are pumping out these games like crazy!
