North Korean Propaganda Video Uses Footage From Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

A video showed up recently on North Korea's official YouTube page that features footage from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It's a strange video that features a North Korean citizen dreaming of a nuclear attack on the United States, while a looping instrumental version of "we are the world" plays in the background.

The video and its Call of Duty clips was first discovered by LiveLeak, which was able to translate some of the text flashing on the screen:

"Somewhere in the United States, black clouds of smoke are billowing."

"It seems that the nest of wickedness is ablaze with the fire started by itself."

"Despite all kinds of attempts by imperialists to isolate and crush us... never will anyone be able to stop the people marching toward a final victory."

You can head here to see the video. The Call of Duty footage begins around the 2:10 mark.

The official YouTube version of the video is already being blocked with the notice, "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Activision Games Inc."

  • WOW! Is it just me or does North Korea think that the cold war ongoing? Because that kind of stuff does not fly anymore.
  • Read "Nothing to Envy" by Barbara Demick.

  • All you need to know about North Korea in one video: www.youtube.com/watch

  • Next COD game will be Call of Duty: North Korean Warfare.
  • Reading comments on some news sites shows that most people don't realize the footage is from a video game. They're so confused, it's hilarious.
  • You know what would be great? If the people of North Korea could wake up and realize that their government doesn't care about them in the least and overthrow them. Those poor people are just used and abused by their leaders that they revere so much.
  • Smart move North Korea use a game where the russians are the antagonist for propaganda

  • Does North Korea understand the fact that we have the most powerful navy in the world sitting right off the coast of their country?
  • So you hate America then use an American game to try to piss us off... their failure just succeeds in proving how pitiful they are.

  • Well, that just wasn't very nice... I wonder if they understand the ramifications of an all-out war with us? We might be hurting afterwards, but they'd be decimated. Why can't people just play nice and get along?
  • Sigh it's funny that they try this stuff, yet they're so backwards thinking that they forget about simple things. LIKE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW. Doubt we will ever lose to a country that human rights wise still thinks it's about 500 A.D.
  • HA! Good placement of the final quote and the info about the copyright claim forcing the video down. Like comedic timing, but with text.

  • Activision vs North Korea.
  • I'm scared.
  • Sweet!

  • Heard about this this morning. Crazy that video games are finally good enough to get used by 3rd world countries' propaganda videos. IN REAL LIFE! It'd be nice if they spent more money on feeding, ya know, their starving people. North Korea's a horrible place to live. I'm from South Korea and definitely hope that the homeland down south doesn't have to put up with this forever. . .
  • Hmm...
