Microsoft Shoots Down Halo Titles For Steam

Update: As alluring as the list below of potential Steam titles is, it looks like the Halo games won't be among them.

GameSpot has a comment from a Microsoft official who says, "We currently do not have plans to release any Halo titles on Steam."

Hopefully that thinking changes.

--------------------------------------------------

Original Story: According to a post at NeoGAF, Halo 3 and a slew of other games may be coming to Steam. The poster was perusing Steam’s database of game content, coming across the list of possible future releases.

It isn’t clear which games could really make the jump to Steam. Some like Fez make sense as the title was planned to be ported, but entries like Halo 3 are over five years old. Games listed to the database don’t always make it to release.

Meanwhile, Yogventures! and Octodad: Dadliest Catch have been Greenlit through Steam Greenlight, and will appear on Steam in the future.

Here’s NeoGAF’s list:

  • La-Mulana
  • The Splatters
  • Octodad: Dadliest Catch Beta
  • Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition (Duke Nukem 3D+)
  • Super House of Dead Ninjas
  • Fez
  • LucasArts Test App
  • Fast and Furious 6
  • Lococycle

  • Halo 3 on PC? Sounds like a purchase if the multiplayer gets popular. I bought Halo 2 PC a while ago, and there were like no servers :/
  • I wasn't even aware that people still played Halo 3. Maybe on Steam it will pick back up.

  • Wow, I really hope Steam releases all of these games.

  • Would love to play halo 3 on the pc, especially if there are some graphical improvements like anti-aliasing, better textures, and maybe a longer draw distance. However, the odds of that game existing on anything other than the xbox seems highly unlikely to me...
  • Halo 2? Cool :D

  • Really, really hope this is true.

  • Well, lets hope at least a good chunk of those games make it on to Steam in the future. Never can have enough games to choose from!

  • Is that an outing of Quantum Conundrum 2 I see?
  • you all saw "steam" and "3" and clicked it thinking it was Half life 3.

  • Halo would be very nice to have on Steam but so would Red Dead Redemption. I personally would love to see some even older pc games come to Steam like Age of Mythology and Roller Coaster Tycoon 1&2.
  • Aren't the Halo 2 servers on PC going down this month?
  • Aren't the Halo 2 servers on PC going down this month?

  • If this is true, The Workshop better support this.

Also, this makes sense once you think about. Halo 3, made by Microsoft, potentially releasing on PC as the next generation of consoles rolls around? Sounds an awful lot like Halo 2's PC debut.

  • Halo: CE would be awesome on Steam. There are some really cool PC only maps not featured in the original.

  • Quantum Conundrum 2!
  • I really want this to be true.

  • Took long enough for 2 to get there.

  • I will buy those day1!

Unfortunately, they'll likely be a windows8 exclusive like Halo 2 was for Windows Vista. Anyways, I guess I can dual boot windows 8 in order to run it.

  • I am really hoping for Fez.
