Rockstar has laid to rest rumors of a conspiracy theory behind the delay of imminent blockbuster, Grand Theft Auto V.

"To those of you saying or seeing various conspiracy theories about there being some other ulterior motive for this delay, rest assured that they're all nonsense – literally the only reason we've delayed the release is because we want the game to be as good as it needs to be," the company said in a post on the official Rockstar Newswire.

Rockstar also mentions that the box art for the new installment will have a late release. GTA V’s release date has been pushed back to Sept. 17, four months later than originally announced, but the company asks for the benefit of the doubt. "Trust us, it will be worth the extra time,” Rockstar said.

Rockstar has released a statement apologizing to fans and further explaining the situation.

people need to relax, think of how much pressure that studio is under right now, people are predicting that this will be fastest selling game of all time, gta4 was the highest rated game of all time with a 98/100, and there is a HUGE amount of hype.

Rockstar seems like the type that would just flat out say, "It's our game and we'll release it when it's ready." They haven't done us wrong with GTA yet, so just have some patience everybody.

It looks like this was posted on their Newswire, where they invite comments from readers. Apparently many of the readers were abusing the site's terms and conditions, posting "abusive" statements. Sounds like Rockstar's been cleaning these up, but must have come across some nasty ones.

I guess I missed it. What conspiracy? BTW, I LOVE it that Rockstar is releasing such a massive game within 2 months of new console releases from Sony and MS.

I'm ticked at Rockstar because they promised the fans that they would release the box art by the end of the month, and instead of that, we got a delay and nothing more. They could have at least released some new screenshots or something. Butttttt conspiracy theorists are taking it wayy too far.

So it's saying, The game is delayed until September? am I right? If so I rather them take their time then rush it...Rockstar is smart with their games and i'm sure it'll be worth it
