Here Are Xbox Live Arcade's Best Selling Games In 2012

The Xbox Live Arcade is going strong with revenues estimated to have doubled 2011's according to fadellc.com. That probably has a lot to do with the game that was the best selling XBLA game in 2012. And I am going to predict that it might just be the best selling game in 2013 again when that list rolls around.

You can check out the list below which features surprises and non-surprises alike. Castle Crashers, a game that released five years ago is still selling like crazy, and apparently I am Alive, a game with mixed critical reception, sold better than Tony Hawk's HD outing. I'm also disappointed to see that my personal favorite game of 2012, Fez, didn't break the top 10.

  1. Minecraft – 4,997,000 units/$97,388,000
  2. Trials Evolution – 1,002,000 units/$14,298,000
  3. The Walking Dead – 2,615,000 units/$10,277,000
  4. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – 273,000/$3,973,000
  5. Castle Crashers – 252,000 units/$3,778,000
  6. Gotham City Impostors – 258,000 units/$3,698,000
  7. I Am Alive – 245,000 units/$3,609,000
  8. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD – 226,000 units/$3,261,000
  9. Alan Wake’s American Nightmare – 206,000 units/$2,903,000
  10. Trials HD – 203,000/$2,799,000

  • That's good, but it's still a problem that there's such a huge gap between the top 3 multi-million sellers and everyone else just managing a couple hundred thousand units. Not to mention, where's stuff like Dust: An Elysian Tail? Why are there holdovers from years prior? Gamers need to be better informed over what is on the XBLA. And the PSN and eShop probably. Too many gamers only seem to buy, like, 3 DLGs a year. The most heavily promoted ones at that (like Walking Dead). They should take a chance on WAY more DLGs...
  • Glad to see Gotham City: Impostors up there, I absolutely loved that game. It practically oozed with it's own unique style. I would literally pay for a show based on the few animated shorts they created for the game.
  • Castle Crashers has been selling good ever since it came out years ago.
  • Castle Crashers is still in the best selling?
  • im surprised mark of the ninja isn't on here, as well as dust and elysian trail, both pretty cool games

  • That's incredibly frustrating that Dust: An Elysian Tail didn't make it into the top ten.
  • This is clearly based on revenue. Trials Evolution seems to have sold 1,000,000 copies fewer than The Walking Dead, but it is in the #2 slot because it brought in more cash. So i was thinking that has the be the case with Fez...it might have been good in sales numbers, just not in revenue brought in.
  • Silly question, but does each episode of The Walking Dead count as a single unit? So for example if one gamer downloads all episodes does that count as one unit or five units (or whatever number of episodes there are)? Just curious!:D
  • was hoping mark of the ninja would be on there, that is a great game

  • Wow, "I Am Alive" ranked 7th? Would've thought it was kind of a flop, though I personally liked the game a lot.
  • I only bought one of the games on this list which was the walking dead.
  • I have to argue happy wars is on that list, but its a free game.
  • Glad to see Castle Crashers up there. A great game, although at one point it had a habit of erasing all your saved data. As for Minecraft, I can see why it's up there, although I've never got sucked in. When I've played it, I just end up walking around without any idea what the heck I'm doing.
  • Interesting, Notch made more money personally ($101 million) than the XBox version of his game ($97 million) this year. Guess the PC version is still really, really popular (got to love mods)
  • It's lucky, then, that MS is phasing XNA out...

  • It's understandable that Fez is going multiplatform if it couldn't even break 200K on 360. That is really surprising to me. It was a pretty good game.

  • #5 and #6, those are my games!

  • Glad to see I Am Alive and Alan Wake up there.

  • That's quite a gap between 3rd and 4th in terms of units sold.
  • Castle Crashers is the best in my opinion!
