Fire Emblem: Awakening Delayed Due To Shipping Error

Concrete answers have been ambiguous, but according to a few different retailers, Fire Emblem: Awakening has been delayed by a few days.

I called a few Best Buy and GameStop stores, some nearby, some far away, and most were reporting a small delay. The Best Buys I spoke to said the game probably wouldn't be available until Wednesday February 6, and the GameStops said the game may not be available until Friday, February 8 due to shipping errors. Amazon also has a notice on its Fire Emblem: Awakening page that reads, "Potential Shipping Delay: Delivery of Fire Emblem: Awakening pre-orders may be affected by manufacturer shipping delays. Amazon apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause."

I sent an e-mail to Nintendo representatives for further confirmation, and will update the story if I hear back.

If you have the game reserved, or were planning on picking it up tomorrow, I would suggest calling ahead and confirming a release date if possible.

To live vicariously through us since you might have to wait a little bit longer for Fire Emblem: Awakening, you can watch us play the game in a recent Test Chamber, or read our review here.

  • This isn't anything new at all. Here's a little rant about the issue that I posted on Facebook:

Now that Nintendo's releasing a high profile game on a Monday (Fire Emblem Awakening), people are actually starting to take notice of the big problem with Monday video game releases—most retailers don't receive the game on release day (and sometimes even lie to you about the release date, like GameStop does). I don't know if the publisher or the retailers are to blame for this issue, but either way it's not fun when you go to the store expecting to get a game you've been waiting for on its release date and you find out the store doesn't even have it yet. I've dealt with this many, many times, but most of the time it's lower profile games that, sadly, not many people are rushing out to get on their release dates, like Kirby Mass Attack, Rhythm Heaven Fever, Pokémon Conquest, Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone!, and Crosswords Plus. I would go from retailer to retailer on those Mondays, finding the same situation everywhere, where either the retailers are honest and say that they haven't received it yet, or they give me some BS about the release date being Tuesday or Wednesday or later (that's GameStop every time, without fail). Tomorrow will be no different, from the looks of it, except in one way—this time many other people will be experiencing my disappointment too. But it's funny, because people will (and are already starting to) complain that this is an issue exclusive to Fire Emblem Awakening's release. No no no, this issue has been around for a long time with every other Monday release from Nintendo. I really hope that something changes regarding these releases, because I'm sick of being disappointed on these Mondays. It's to the point where, when Nintendo announces a Monday release date, I'm already disappointed long before the game comes out because I know I probably won't be able to find it that day. =/
  • But I want it nao.
  • Oh balls... Of course the first game I was really looking forward to for my new 3DS XL is delayed. Let the anticipation continue...
  • A four day delay isn't bad. How long was Brawl delayed again?
  • DUE TO A SHIPPING ERROR, WE ARE CURRENTLY OVERSTOCKED ANDWEAREPASSINGTHESAVINGSONTOYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUU!
  • And yet some orders arrived early in Canada. -.- dang. At least I have Dead Space 3 on Tuesday.
  • I just called the Gamestop I reserved at and they said they hadn't heard of a delay and checked their computers and the computers were still saying Feb. 4.
  • Well at least I still have Dead Space to play this week. With that, I will be able to wait another 5 days.

  • Good thing I live in Canada, where EB Games (Canadian GameStop) was selling it early! Got it almost a week ago now.
  • Damn I was really lookin forward to tomorrow. Oh well onto Friday then

  • Does this mean they are delaying the digital release too?
  • That's why I'm buying it on the Eshop.

  • Oh wow, that sucks. Too bad for everybody who pre-ordered :/

  • I called GameStop and they said February 5th for me.. So 1 day?

  • Friday I got a email saying my pre-order at Best Buy wasn't available for pick up.  I called costumer service and we figured it was a error, someone trying to get the game from the back.  Got another email this morning as well.  This does suck a bit, but as long as I get the game this week, I'll be ok.  I know it's paid for and all, hopefully this only means A LOT of people want this game and it will be successful.  Now if we can get a guide for this game....  lol

  • anyone know if you can download it off the 3ds store?
  • Guess this means that I should wait a tad longer to buy it without a preorder. I was undecided at the time, okay?
  • A few days is ok. I still got Ni No Kuni to get through.
  • Man, the reviews had me pumped for it...

  • Yeah I've been feeling the effects of this for a bit already. I saw the Test Chamber and review as soon as they were up so I went to the local GameStop to pickup my pre-order 3DS bundle. They even had a sign up saying Awakening was "available now". I've been thinking about this practically non-stop since I heard. I had to sit through Wicked wishing I could just get a 3DS and some more Fire Emblem already.
