An Exclusive Sneak Peek At The Warhammer 40k Film

For all of the Warhammer 40,000 fans out there, Anchor Bay Entertainment is releasing the CG film Ultramarines on March 5. This clip is from one of the special features, and gives you a sense of the team's approach to this beloved universe.

The film will be available on Blu-ray, DVD, and via digital download. Anchor Bay touts the project as the first feature-length Warhammer 40,000 film, and it has a few big-name voices (like Terence Stamp and John Hurt).

Watch the clip below to see members of the development team at Games Workshop talk about the marines and their sinister counterparts. It ends abruptly, but everything up until that point should be enjoyable for fans of the franchise.

  • Wow, you say this movie was out a year ago ? Then why does it looks like it has been made in 1990 ? It looks worse than the bionicle movie. And this got out on bluray ? rofl Everything from modeling to lighting is botched. The five seconds of animation when you see the guy pressing the trigger made me cover my eyes.
  • I already mentioned this but it was released for American distribution last year, and the year before that it was in the UK and available for online download. Honestly a 'meh' film. You don't really learn any of the cool aspects of the universe and it prods around for 2/3s of the film trying to build tension. The action picks it up but there's nothing "40k" about it. The Adeptus Astartes die like any other space marines, not really awesome considering the mutations they've gone through. The antagonist is also typical, extremely typical for a universe like 40k where Cthulhu would be your average cosmic monstrosity. But the character arc of the protagonist fits the pacing of the film... if we're talking about length. All the tension was ultimately pointless since it never gave the film any sort of atmosphere, or made you worry for a single character. And since it was a movie made for fans the tension was even more pointless since we know the MO of the threat and that it actually isn't all that threatening... Honestly I'd only give it a watch if you're a 40k fan, and even then you'll tell yourself that any of the Relic games had better storylines and could sell the universe.
  • Already seen it, and it's not worth it. Sorry to disappoint, but I'd rather say the truth.

  • Once again: this isn't new. It's over a year old, and it sucks. I'm a gigantic fan of 40k, both the novels and the tabletop game, and it's absolutely awful. If you're not into 40k, it'll be even more worthless to you.
  • Already saw it. It was kinda terrible...

  • John Hurt and Terrence Stamp always make for some great voicework.
  • We need a big time trilogy of the Horus Heresy. It's such an amazing story line that really get people interested in the Warhammer 40k universe.
  • Intriguing.

  • The art style of the marines uniforms was not pleasing at all. The animation reminds me of beast wars.
