What's Happening

Weekend Warrior 02/1/13

The Super Bowl is on Sunday, and that means one editor might visit the virtual gridiron, while others keep chipping away at recently released titles like The Cave, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Far Cry 3.

Jeff Marchiafava: Look, I’m going to get back to Far Cry 3 one of these days, so get off my back! However, in honor of the Super Bowl this weekend, I might just try playing one of those fancy Madden games I’ve heard so much about. I haven’t played a football game since NFL Blitz, so maybe this is the perfect time to pick up the old digital pigskin again. Don’t understand how playing NFL Blitz 15 years ago makes now the perfect time to try a Madden game? Don’t worry so much!

Ben Hanson: I'm traveling back home for the weekend so I'm not sure how much time I'll have to play games. I'm planning on sneaking my 3DS along to play some more Fire Emblem. I'm intimidated and scared of the game's complexity, but I feel compelled to stay current with Nintendo and Intelligent Systems. On top of that, I recently downloaded an adventure game for my iPhone called Lume with a unique art style that I hope to check out. Have a good weekend!

Jason Pfitzer: Heading to University of Wisconsin-Stout this weekend with some alumni to attend a 48-hour LAN party! I'll be getting home just in time to watch the Super Bowl – by myself.

Kyle Hilliard: I was going to keep plugging away at The Cave after getting all the bad endings for the characters and two of the good ones, but the Cloud ate my save file forcing me to start over. I lost all my cave paintings which made me lose all my momentum. Looks like I will just have to make due with some more Far Cry 3. I still need to start a Devil May Cry game, too. As far as non-video games go, I’ll be hanging out with Dan and his dad.

Kayla Herrera: After scrounging around for the week’s best mobile apps, I will be sure to put one of my discoveries, Badass, into frequent use. My boyfriend’s driving out from Houghton, Mich. for our anniversary, and we plan on playing some Split Second and Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing together. The overarching plan is to invest in Guild Wars 2 together at some point this weekend to take advantage of the new Living Story initiative, and participate in something long distance other than World of Warcraft and Team Fortress 2 (shake things up a bit) – although I can almost guarantee nothing will pull me away from Team Fortress 2 this weekend.

Kimberley Wallace: I have a confession: Although, Maniac Mansion is one of my favorite games, I can’t remember if I ever finished it. I remember my brothers and I getting really far (don’t worry; we took care of the hamster), but I can’t recall if I ever saw the ending. The uncertainty has been driving me crazy, especially because it stands as one of my favorite games. So, this weekend I’m on a quest to replay through the game, hoping my memory reconnects the dots and enlightens me if I ever really did beat the game way back when.

Louis Garcia: I have to put together a weekly newspaper this weekend, but if I can I’m going to squeeze in some more time with Far Cry 3. There’s nothing better than getting dive-bombed by a leopard when trying to scope out a pirate base. I may also sneak some time in with The Cave after hearing about it from Kyle Hilliard, and will try to watch some Battlestar Galactica after Matt Miller explained what it is to me. It should make for good viewing after playing soccer on Sunday.

Comments
  • Ni No Kuni, finishing up Far Cry 3, Mario U, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, and maybe Skyrim with a hint of Assassin's Creed III.
  • Dark Souls. I got a little bold after I picked up the Drake Sword, but a black knight knocked me back into reality(and over a cliff). I'm thinking about picking up Demon's Souls again as well. Never did get around to finishing it. NSMB U, Black Ops 2 U, homework, work, and Super Bowl Sunday.
  • Halo 4 MP, FIFA 13, Forza 4, Dark Souls and I might try the Path to Exile beta some more. And patiently waiting for Fire Emblem to release on Monday. I suppose I will watch this "Superbowl" everyone is talking about as well.
  • I'm having a lot of fun with my new 3DS. This weekend, I'll be playing Ocarina of Time 3D, Super Mario 3D Land, and a little Devil Survivor. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up Fire Emblem Awakening when it comes out in a few days. That's the game I'm really looking forward to.
  • Most of my gaming time will most likely be spent playing more Ni No Kuni. Seriously haven't been this addicted to a solid JRPG in years, Other than that just whatever back log games I feel like playing. Also plan on going and checking out Warm Bodies later on tonight.
  • ME3,RDR,Lego Lord Of The Rings,Halo 4 and super bowl

  • Black Ops 2, maybe some Battlefield 3 or Path of Exile.  Also need to finish my playthrough of Dreamfall.

  • Ocarina 3D, Star Fox 3D, and maybe some Super Mario 64. I think I'll get Balloon Fight as well for $.30. I wish that my copy of Metroid Prime that I got on eBay for $10 would arrive already.
  • Tonight is just a gym session and continue a Darksiders run.  Tomorrow is going to consist of doing schoolwork for my accounting and economic classes, and then a friend of mine is coming over for a House of the Dead: Overkill session.  And Sunday, oh Sunday. BBQ, beers, and football.  Looking forward to one hell of a day.  Luckily I don't have class on Monday until 7:00 PM.

  • I am going to try to finish Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and play more of Castlevania Lords of Shadow. I also plan to get Bayonetta, The walking dead, and possibly Demon's Souls on PSN.
  • There's a quest in Skyrim that keeps freezing my Xbox, so I'll try and conquer that, while also throwing in some DmC and possibly Dark Souls or XCOM. Oh, and more Battlefield multiplayer.

  • Metal Gear Solid, and OverBlood. Yes, I said that. And also purposely NOT watching football! :D
  • I'm seeing The Hobbit for the 3rd time and I'll also be playing Tales of Graces f
  • Minecraft, lord of the rings online, work, homework, and the superbowl. Maybe a multiplayer game like halo 4 or gears 3
  • Still trekking my way through Jak II. Quite honestly, I find it somewhat of a letdown. Super Bowl for me on Sunday, as has been the case for many years now.
  • I just got Hitman hd collection in today from gamefly that plus Blops 2 will be keep me busy this weekend it's very cold here in BMORE oh i hate the ravens SO LET'S GO 49ERS
  • Instead of doing my second playthrough of Persona 4 Golden right off, I think I'm gonna use this Four in February thing as an excuse to finally put a dent in my backlog. Got Symphony of the Night loaded onto my Vita and I'm gonna restart Darksiders tonight.

  • Red Dead Redemption for the 360, Scribblenauts Unlimited for the Wii U, Borderlands 2 for the 360.
  • Ni no Kuni while I can since I know football will be on Sunday (Damn! Why can't they all have the functionality like the Wii U?!). And finishing up Chrono Trigger on my 3DS while the Super Bowl is on. We'll see. My husband is a Ravens fan and might take offense. I hope to make some boozy banana baked french toast using banana slices and banana liqueur. I love breakfast! http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2006/12/new-years-day-2001/
  • Going to try and beat DmD mode on DmC. Play some Halo 4 MP. I will probably end up playing some UMvC3 for a few hours, while drinking some beers with some friends in town. Then it's on to the Super Bowl baby!
