See The Full God Of War: Ascension Super Bowl Ad Now

As any football fan can tell you, the Super Bowl is airing this Sunday, pitting the Baltimore Ravens against the San Francisco 49ers in New Orleans. It's also a big time for advertisers. Sony is one of many companies trying to grab the attention of the game's massive audience before people leave the room to refill the chip bowl or fetch another refreshing beverage. Just in case, the company has released an extended cut of the God of War: Ascension spot that will be broadcast during the Super Bowl.

The live-action trailer, "From Ashes," shows a stylized representation of Kratos and his family just before tragedy transformed him into the Ghost of Sparta. The clip is a nice vote of confidence for the brand, showing that Sony feels confident enough to spend a near fortune on advertising the game. Viewers will only be getting a one-minute version of the trailer, so not only are you getting an early look at it below, but you're getting to see it in its entirety.

Look for the game on March 12. If you don't yet own a PlayStation 3 and you're looking for a way to catch up on the God of War franchise, you may want to consider the recently announced God of War hardware bundle

  • AWESOME!

  • This will probably be one of the games I pick up once PS4 comes out and I get a PS3.
  • I made a bet with my friend that this was going to be a God of War trailer. He actually bet against me for $20 saying it was going to be a new game featuring Spartans. Safe to say I just made $20.
  • This is the kind of thing that pisses me off about Sony. there's nothing really wrong with the commercial (even if Kratos has a funny angry face at one point). But you've obviously just spent a ridiculous amount of money for a one minute Super Bowl spot. And God of War is already a pretty successful franchise as it is. Why not use that time slot to promote the Vita? The Vita is desperately in need of sales, and you simply can't duplicate the amount of viewers a Super Bowl ad can reach. Nope. Instead, you spend a ton of money promoting a game that in all likelihood, will sell very well anyways. I just don't understand you Sony. This is the perfect opportunity to really spread the word about Vita, and you continue to ignore it. It just baffles my mind.
  • Per the PS Blog it's not actually airing on TV, just live streaming on the net if you watch the Super Bowl that way!
  • Can't wait for this game! That is one sexy console.

  • I nomally do not like live action ads, but this one was professionally done.

  • Whoa... That was pretty nice.

  • What is with all the terrible background music in game ads now? I mean I know they are just trying to target as many people as they can but adding Phil Collins to Dead Space and whatever this is to God of War doesn't fit. However this ad is actually very well made, minus the music
  • Nicely done, but some gameplay would've been better IMO.
  • march 11 midnight needs to hurry up already...
  • Nope!!! Hate it..especially that whiny song.

  • Is anyone else not into this series? It just doesn't excite me.
  • kind of a lame trailer i think...if your putting an ad up during the superbowl you gotta at least tell the viewers what this game is. this doesnt even come close. it tells you a bit of the story...but thats kind of low on the list of reasons to get this game.
  • Well, that's pretty nice actually.

  • was that Ellie Goulding's music?

and anyone else think Sigur Ros would be a perfect fit for a God of War ad, particularly this one? maybe i'm just trippin'.

  • Was well-done but Americans like action. A soft felt live touchy story trailer isn't a way to appeal to new consumers. You need game play footage. Especially for the super bowl? C'mon Sony
  • Weak.

  • um. whatever that was.

  • Phenominal!
