The lights are on
Suda51 and his Grasshopper Manufacture development studio have been bought by Japanese publisher GungHo Entertainment.
GungHo works primarily in Asia, and has previously acquired Game Arts (the Lunar and Grandia series), Acquire (Tenchu), and Gravity, the creators of Korean MMORPG Ragnarok Online. GungHo has release Ragnarok Odyssey for the Vita in North America.
"By joining GungHo Online Entertainment," said Suda51 in a statement, "we are aligning ourselves with a strong, established publishing force that will support our vision to further create inspired new games that appeal players across the world. The Grasshopper team and I have many new ideas to share with our fans as we move forward so this union with GOE will help us realize our future plans.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and it's unknown what will happen if anything with Grasshopper's back-catalog, as well as games currently in the works such as Killer is Dead (which may be published by XSEED in North America and Kadokawa Games in Japan).
GungHo says that more news on Grasshopper's projects will be released in the coming months. Given GungHo's online focus, it'll be interesting to see how this may affect Suda51's games.

This MIGHT suck. I hope this doesn't mean Suda51 and Grasshopper lose their flair as that is what makes them great. I'm a huge Suda fan and would really hate for a company to stem his thought process in any way. It also scares me that the company that bought them has a huge online focus as well. This could be better for Grasshopper and Suda, we'll see, I just don't like the idea of a company maybe changing some of their ideas.
I hope this will be a good merge. I love the over the top Suda games...no matter what anyone says!!!!
hopefully this will be for the best for them, you never know tho.
Wow! Not sure what to think about this merger yet. I would hate for a publisher to hold Suda51 back at all, especially with a lot of his hysterical titles. Hopefully both Suda51 and GungHo Entertainment see eye to eye.
Hmm, I'm going to stay optimistic on this one. Bigger budgets maybe!
Is good or bad?
Hopefully Suda51 can still make absurd games.
I hope they still make great games.
I rather hope this maybe an open opportunity to bring the Lollipop Chainsaw to xbox live and PlayStation Network for the costumes. I'm just saying there's probably alot of us out there than is asking for something like that...
Soooo... Lollipop Chainsaw 2?
Hmm... But I wanna see more Suda.
I guess I'm the only one who isn't impressed by Suda51 at all. None of his games have been good in my opinion. >_>
hoping the best I say.
