Medal Of Honor Hits The Back Burner

Electronic Arts has pushed its Medal of Honor franchise out of its yearly shooter rotation after the poor showing last year's Medal of Honor: Warfighter gave.

Speaking on the company's financial briefing call earlier today, EA COO Peter Moore neatly ducked any responsibility for Warfighter's performance. ""The game was solid, but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers," Moore said. "Critics were polarized and gave the game scores which were, frankly, lower than it deserved."

No mention of a future revival of the series was made, though Moore also noted that the publisher "[has] a plan to bring year-over-year continuity to our shooter offerings."

Setting aside the mass hallucinations that seized critics and gamers alike and threw off their perceptions of Warfighter's quality – obviously, that's the only explanation for the universal disdain for that title's glitchy multiplayer and uninspired solo campaign – what would you like to see EA do with the Medal of Honor franchise?

  • EA makes a smart decision?! Hell has frozen over, people.
  • Wow. The mechanics in the game were great, for working with a new engine (Frostbite 2). Of course if you make yearly expansions like COD, it's going to be more polished. I guess the media using MOH Warfighter as a scapegoat to complain about COD mechanics being dated, worked. It's sad to see what the industry has become... I'm sure Danger Close didn't even want to make the campaign similar to the undeservedly popular franchise, but EA forced their hand, and now this is the result.

If you can look past the shallow stuff found in today's popular shooters (explosions and slow mo), you'd see MOH Warfighter actually had great shooting mechanics and the fire team system worked really well for the fast paced environment.

Oh well, popularity will always reign supreme... Just ask Apple.
  • Fans also said that the game was nearly broken as far as its playability too, EA. It wasn't just authenticity. It's no surprise, then, that EA's letting this one slide. As many shooters as are on consoles right now, I really don't mind them not doing anything with Medal of Honor period. There's always gonna be Call of Duty for shooter fans anyway.
  • I would love to see them cut it completely and focus wholeheartedly on battlefield for an every other year release
  • Wow I'd like to see Medal of Honor developer go back and redo every thing make a new formula change things up new everything more guns and more play options and see what it is that gamers want

  • It's probably smart of EA to do this considering what a joke Warfighter was. But at the same time, it's a little sad to see Medal of Honor go on yet another hiatus like this with its last two attempts at a revival only mediocre at best. I think the series needs a few years to examine itself and actually be developed and polished to true quality before release.
  • I want my 60$ back from this garbage game.
  • this franchise needs a new developer and needs to go back to WWII. i think its been long enough that a WWII shooter would work and the "modern shooter" genre is way too crowded now.
  • Well I think that they should let this one rest for a bit and come up with some fresh ideas before they attempt to make another one.
  • What would I like to see? The series go back to its roots. If my saying that makes you think I mean "take the setting back to WWII" you are misunderstanding me.

James Patterson, Manon Manon Batiste. These characters and the stories they led mirrored James Bond more than they did a war simulator. Espionage, sabotage, covert under cover operations are what I'm talking about. Not sneaking around mountains on loud ass dirt bikes.
  • Maybe I'm the only one in the world, but I really enjoyed Warfighter. I thought it had the best campaign out of all the military shooters of 2012 (except maybe Spec Ops), the graphics were outstanding, and the multiplayer was decent enough for me to play actively. I agree, there are plenty of problems with the game, but I thought Danger Close did a pretty good job without the help of Dice. Hopefully, this intermission between potential sequels will be enough to win back the hope of other Medal of Honor fans.

  • That's a shame.

I loved the campaign in the MoH reboot. I didn't get Warfighter due to bad reviews, but all the videos I've seen of it seems lackluster. Maybe I'll pick it up when it drops to $5 on a sale just for the SP. Maybe.

  • I wouldn't mind seeing it go back to WWII. Although, that'd probably mean we'd go through yet another Normandy invasion.
  • Maybe the games won't be garbage if it wasn't relaesed so often.

  • Destroy it.

  • I hate cop-outs. When your game sucks, it's going to receive bad reviews

  • EA take your time, no need for a rush job!

  • WWII period with frostbite 2 engine would be nice... I really hope they going back to WWII rather than modern.... there's much to tell in WWII..
  • "Aw, man!" said no one ever.

  • If only EA would give Danger Close the time they need to make another quality Medal of Honor game.

You'd think that after the huge backlash over Warfighter on their official forums, the rage from EA removing Greg Goodrich (one of the head people at Danger Close), and MOHHQ (pretty much the only MOH fansite) shutting down because of being sick of EA's *** that EA would realize that the problem with MOH is EA.
