The lights are on
Gabe Newell recently gave a talk at the University of Texas' LBJ School of Public Affairs where he talked about Valve's biggest competitor.
Notes on Newell's talk comes from Polygon where he had a lot to say about the coming battle over the living room. Newell said, "I think that there's a scenario where we see sort of a dumbed down living room platform emerging — I think Apple rolls the console guys really easily. The question is can we make enough progress in the PC space to establish ourselves there, and also figure out better ways of addressing mobile before Apple takes over the living room?"
Newell also said that he expects a lot of products to show up soon that will bridge the gap between the living room and the PC, but Valve will be happy to join the fray. His biggest fear, however, is that Apple will beat them to the punch, which will hurt the PC to living room transition in the long run.

If Apple does release a gaming system of sorts for the TV I bet it will feature games similar to those on the Ooya. I won't be interested but my parents might be, lol.
I just lot a bit of respect for mr. Newell... Apple? God... I prefer giving my money to the Ouya...
I still think there is a strong possibility that Apple will enter the living room. They already have Apple TV for just $100. All they need to do is add the app store and a controller and they're off to the races. Charge $200 or $300.
MAC isn't a threat, because it has close to no games. In fact, they only had a few starwars games. Until Steam released for MAC, it has hardly been used.
I use a mac. I played Borderlands, Borderlands 2. Close to max settings. It was very nice, until I realized there really are no games for mac. I partitioned it, of course, so that helped. But I really don't see this being a plausible threat. I would prefer to stick with Sony rather than buy an apple console.
Lol Gaben.
don't worry gabe , it'll be so overpriced all you'd have to do is undercut them.
