Here Are Japan's Best Selling Games Of 2012

It turns out the Japanese are still really into Pokémon.

The list comes from Japanese gaming site 4Gamer.net, with helpful translations from Siliconera. It's always interesting to see what Japanese gamers are into compared to us over here in North America. For example, Taiko Drum Master: The Little Dragon and the Mysterious Orb sold better than Resident Evil: Revelations for 3DS. • Now I really want New Leaf
  • Glad to see RE 6 up there, really loved that game, think it took too much heat for not enough good reasons.
  • Pokemon makes total sense for Japanese sales, honestly. Surprised to see Kid Icarus still being on top 30 list. I really really want to add at least one statistic for the U.S.'s New Leaf sales list.

  • And the Japanese do not like North American made games at all. Interesting to see how different we all are.
  • New Leaf is still killing the sales. Also I think Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate/3g sold way more. I swear it was a million seller in the first month.

Edit: Ah the 3 U/g is the WiiU numbers. 3g came out in 2011 when it sold millions. Still selling very well probably cause of the WiiU release and 3g being a "best price" game now
  • Aww, where's Tokyo Jungle?
  • i want a NA yakuza 5 release date -_-

  • Not a lot of diversity if you ask me.
  • I wish I lived in Japan. Earlier releases and that weirdness would be right up my alley and such.
  • This was a fun read. I feel like my gaming tastes are more in line with this list as opposed to the American one.
  • almost all of those games have either "quest" "dragon" or "mario" in the title lol japan....always mixin it up (extreme sarcasm)
  • the fact that that theyd rather play dragons dogma and pro soccer evolution instead of skyrim and fifa shows me how much that country cares about buying from companies that are run by people of the same ethnicity rather than the quality of the content. u can call it traditional or w.e u want but its just blatant discrimination. i only use those games as examples because their identical genres and game styles but obviously u know which ones are widely regarded as better for great reasons. it does make sense that they would skip out on skyrim considering nobody in japan ever bought a 360 except for like 4 guys. another bullet point right there lol
  • Lol @ Mario Party 9 being that high...and being number 9...:P
  • not very open to the western world are you Japan? that's alright we still love you
  • boring......
  • IMO, the general gaming populace in Japan has much better tastes than in America. Not the entire American gaming population, just in general as seen in the top selling games of 2012 in the U.S.
  • Hm...

  • I wish more Japanese games would come to America. That'd be great.
  • Well I plan on getting / already have most of the games in the top 10.

People say Japan's top games lack diversity, but just look at the U.S. Much, much less diverse than Japan, most all of them are just shooters :\

  • Japan sure knows how to market to themselves
