Capcom Gives Reasoning For Resident Evil: Revelations Not Coming To Vita

This week Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil: Revelations would no longer just be a 3DS exclusive. But when the roster was announced for the new platforms to support the enhanced version, it seemed like one platform got shunned: The Vita.

Revelations is releasing on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC, but many people have been longing for more games on the Vita.  Capcom product manager Mike Lunn set the record straight today on why the Vita didn't make the cut on the PlayStation Blog, where he answered user questions in the comments.

As he told a user who questioned its absence, "...we really wanted to hone in on the experience you get with a large format screen, surround sound, etc. This type of setup really helps players get sucked into the horror vibe and enjoy the game to its fullest extent."

But it seems like users still weren't satisfied with that answer and kept on Lunn about their desire for a Vita version. Lunn gave one more final response citing the 3DS and Vita infrastructure and developing for them, "completely different beasts."

Just one look at the comments and it seems like fans still want a Vita version. For now, it doesn't look likely, but at least Lunn offered some perspective instead of completely ignoring fans' request for an answer.

Are you disappointed that Revelations isn't making an appearance on the Vita?

  • I'm glad that Capcom is returning to its original root thinking. This is a great thing Capcom has done, survival horrorisn't much thetalk these days, that's one of the factors that made video games grand. Since I believe the best gaming experience comes from a homeconsole anyway.
  • Well the PSV has sold miserably so I doubt many people would have played it in the first place. The 3DS was in the same position until Nintendo cut the price, but come on Sony, no one will buy a system with very few games out and very few on the horizon.
  • Personally I think the honest truth for Capcom is that making a Vita version is  more trouble than it's worth. As long as there are no games on the system that make people buy Vita's there won't be any games on the system that make people buy Vitas. Its a very onerous catch-22 for Sony and unfortunate for people who already own Vitas.

  • What's a Vita?
  • People say that the Vita doesn't sell because "it has no games", and developers don't want to make games because "it doesn't sell". Looks to me like its gonna be all up to Sony. Sony's developing studios make some great exclusives anyways, all it takes I suppose is more emphasis on the marketing.
  • I don't have a Vita and it's not surprising that yet another game ISN'T coming to the platform. But if i had a Vita, I'd probably be complaining to anyone who would listen to bring their games to the platform too.
  • I like it when companies give a reason and just talk to the fans about why things are the way they are. This is the second thing Capcom has done this week I respect them for. This feels funny.
  • This doesn't make any sense. It was a success on the 3DS, now they're going to realease it on the console for more of the experience here. Fill me in here. No complains on the 3DS but there is one on the Vita. Man you Capcom people doesn't make any sense. Just release it on all the platforms and let the gamers decide. No wonder the Vita doesn't sell. They never give an opportunity. Im losing faith on you Capcom.
  • No, if you have a Vita you more then likely have a PS3/Xbox. Besides we all wanted on those not Vita.

  • I'm not too disappointed, I wouldn't play it on my vita hardly ever.

  • Why not just make another Resident Evil game that sticks to the horror roots like Revelations did? Then they could release exclusives for all the systems and everyone would be happy instead of milking one successful game for all its got.
  • So, up-res-ing a game to support 1280 x 720 (as you would have to do to put the game on 360 and PS3) doesn't make it suitable for Vita's 960 x 544 screen?

And the Vita and 3DS are completely different beasts, but the 3DS and PS3, apparently, are practically identical platforms?

It's cool that this guy isn't ignoring his community, but I'd prefer it if he weren't insulting my intelligence in the process. I don't see what's wrong with saying, "we're not putting it on Vita because we don't think it will sell enough to justify the expense of development"?
  • No.
  • money, potential profit, is the reason don't be fooled. Sure 3ds and Vita infrastructure are "different bests"...umm so are a ps3 and 360 from a 3ds upscaling...I just beat Revelations about two weeks ago and i was thoroughly impressed. Will probably buy for ps3 (just to support more horror oriented future RE games) but i am saddened for fellow vita owners getting shunned. The install base isn't large enough for the seriously injured (from lack of re6 expected sales)Capcom it would seem, it has minimal excuses from a technical perspective why a vita port wouldnt be done.

  • The VIta hasn't sold many units, and they'd probably have to do a huge rewrite to port it. Really not worth the investment.

Not sure why people are surprised that their niche passion doesn't garner mainstream attention.

  • I like my Vita. It get's plenty of play thanks to PS+
  • At least he could have been honest and said there's no money to be made on the Vita therefore no port is coming to it.

  • Capcom is yet again giving BS answers (excuses), what's with the "different beasts" lie... There's plenty of games on both Vita and 3DS, and Vita is nearly as good as a PS3, and seeing as this is an HD upgrade of a 3DS game I'm sure that Vita could handle it, if not a toned down version. They're probably just denying it cuz Vita has some rather disappointing console sales, but denying it only worsens this. Take a friggin chance, show some love. This action alone is even pissing off 3DS owners, some people bought a 3DS just for this game, and some people just bought the game not too long ago and then they're gonna release this on console. They might as well have just done that in the first place. Capcom... dafuq man :/
