Virtual Console Heading To Wii U

by Matthew Kato on Jan 23, 2013 at 03:12 AM

Virtual Console games will be coming to the Wii U and the Nintendo eShop thanks to a forthcoming update.

The Virtual Console will launch after a spring update for the system, and it will feature an as-yet-unannounced selection of titles from the NES and SNES (it won't be the same selection currently available on the Wii Virtual Console). Game Boy Advance games will be added later on.

The prices for the titles will be the same as they were on the Wii, but if you already purchased them on that system, it will cost you $1 to get the "enhanced" Wii U version for NES titles, and $1.50 for SNES games from the Virtual Console on your Wii U.

Finally, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Famicom in Japan, Nintendo is putting one NES or SNES title on sale per month through July for 30 cents. Each game will be available at this price for 30 days, and the first one up is Balloon Fight.
