Sony Could Be Waiting For Microsoft To Make First Next-Gen Move

by Jeff Cork on Jan 21, 2013 at 05:12 AM

The next-gen remains a mystery, with Sony and Microsoft keeping their plans close to their vests. Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai isn't talking about the specific timing for the announcement of the PS3 successor, but he did drop an interesting hint.

IGN is quoting a Times interview with Hirai, in which he says the company may be waiting for Microsoft to blink first. "Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?" he said.

Hirai's comments are a direct contradiction to what we've heard regarding next-gen timing. Our sources have told us that Sony is determined not to repeat what happened with the PS3's launch, which came a year after the Xbox 360's release. Some said that the timing at least initially made it difficult to compete with an established rival.
