Possible Microsoft Durango Hardware Specs Leaked

A site has released what it says is a look at the technical specifications behind Microsoft's Xbox 360 successor, which is going by the code name Durango. If they're to be believed, the next generation will provide more than just an incremental upgrade.

Site vgleaks.com has posted the specs, including the system diagram pictured above.

Some of the reported highlights include 8 GBs of DDR3 RAM, a Blu-ray drive, and hardware support for the next iteration of Kinect.

Here's the complete list. As always, take it all with a grain of salt.

CPU:

  • x64 Architecture
  • 8 CPU cores running at 1.6 gigahertz (GHz)
  • each CPU thread has its own 32 KB L1 instruction cache and 32 KB L1 data cache
  • each module of four CPU cores has a 2 MB L2 cache resulting in a total of 4 MB of L2 cache
  • each core has one fully independent hardware thread with no shared execution resources
  • each hardware thread can issue two instructions per clock

GPU:

  • custom D3D11.1 class 800-MHz graphics processor
  • 12 shader cores providing a total of 768 threads
  • each thread can perform one scalar multiplication and addition operation (MADD) per clock cycle
  • at peak performance, the GPU can effectively issue 1.2 trillion floating-point operations per second
  • High-fidelity Natural User Interface (NUI) sensor is always present

Storage and Memory:

  • 8 gigabyte (GB) of RAM DDR3 (68 GB/s)
  • 32 MB of fast embedded SRAM (ESRAM) (102 GB/s)
  • from the GPU’s perspective the bandwidths of system memory and ESRAM are parallel providing combined peak bandwidth of 170 GB/sec.
  • Hard drive is always present
  • 50 GB 6x Blu-ray Disc drive

Networking:

  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct

Hardware Accelerators:

  • Move engines
  • Image, video, and audio codecs
  • Kinect multichannel echo cancellation (MEC) hardware
  • Cryptography engines for encryption and decryption, and hashing

  • Some of this reads like Latin to me, but from what I understand, this seems like some pretty significant power. The RAM seems a bit low in comparison to some of the other specs, but again, I'm no expert or developer, and I suppose it is almost 16x what current gen consoles have.

Also, I notice this "Kinect multichannel echo cancellation (MEC) hardware". Built in voice commands, perhaps?
  • 1.2 Teraflops? Seems suspiciously high, but I'll be jumping out of my seat with excitement if it's true.
  • If only I could understand what half of that means...
  • Wow, that's pretty good.
  • not sure if that's good or bad...
  • The truth is stranger than fiction...

  • Wow...

  • It sounds great... But I'm not that tech savvy so I really don't know how good it is. All I know is my change jug reads "720"
  • Did I miss something in the storage section? How much internal memory are we looking at (500gb, 1tb, etc.) on the "always present" hard drive? Otherwise, this looks to be about right. Which makes me suspect it's not real . . .
  • I guess we'll just have to wait and find out at E3.
  • I hope they announce it soon, tbh even though I've enjoyed xbox more this generation I may skip the launch just because of the poor handling of the 360 launch. But I might just get the Orbis.. either way all the live arcade games I bought better be playable on this system.
  • If we parallel these components to those of a decent PC, they could have done a better job. But, well, this is not a PC, so, cool!
  • Durango Unchained?
  • The only word I understood out of that was Blu-Ray... and I like it.
  • Very interesting indeed. Getting this and the new PS for the exclusives only. I mainly game on my PC nowadays.
  • I have no idea what those specs mean.. But g0 xb0xz dûràñg0!!!11 lulz
  • Whatever happens, they better not screw up on hard drive space this next generation. I want to see starting options of at least 120GB this time, not some *** like 20 or 40.
  • For those asking if this is "good" or "bad". Neither really. This will be better than previous consoles, but it is nothing too significant. A decent gaming computer a year ago had more power than this new Xbox. That is only if the rumors are true though.
  • Right now I feel like a fat kid at a salad bar, can somebody tell me what all of this is?
  • Durango Unchained.
