The Elder Scrolls Online: Alliances at War Trailer

Why are the Aldmeri Dominion, Daggerfall Covenant, and Ebonheart Pact at war with each other in The Elder Scrolls Online? This video should help you get the lay of the land.

ESO Loremaster Lawrence Schick details the histories of the MMO's three different alliances in this trailer, which plays out a bit like a History Channel documentary.

  • I just kept thinking dang this guy has an awesome voice.
  • This makes me want a good PC.
  • so many things can go right and so many things could go wrong with this game that its not funny well maybe a little

  • It looks cool, but because I'm not a MMO kind of person, I'll most likely pass this up.
  • I still don't like the name, but I'm looking forward to it.
  • Aldmeri Dominion! WE'RE TAKING BACK WHAT'S OURS!
  • CANNOT!!! wait! and OMG this dudes voice is AWESOME!!!!!

  • Ebonheart ftw!
edit: actually I have no idea now, went to there site and im stuck between ebon heart and alderi dominion.
  • Buying a pc just to play this. Will be my first mmo. Diehard elder scrolls fan, cannot wait.
  • The Aldemeri Dominion will take over the continent and keep humans from destroying everything!!
  • I don't know what to think of it. It's got TES in the title, but it don't have to same feel to me.

  • If its not a subscription thing I'll get it. I mean, thats why Guild wars is so superior to other successful MMORPGs in my opinion. But I think it will be a pay monthly and I will just have to wait till The Elder Scrolls VI to get my Scrolls fix

  • If only this would come to consoles, I am truly upset that i won't be experiencing this adventure through Tamriel.

  • I enjoy these kind of videos because sadly, a fictional games world has a much more intriguing history than the real world.

Can't wait for this game though. Been dying to have some form of multiplayer Elder Scrolls for as long as I can remember. That dream will soon come true.
  • His voice is cool, indeed. I am a big fan of the Elder Scrolls, but the idea of an Elder Scrolls MMO scares me a bit. Maybe it will be different from every other MMO out there, and a lot of people are hoping for a breath of fresh air in the genre, so I will patiently wait for more substantial videos showing gameplay mechanics and how it handles individual quests and equipment.

One thing I miss in MMOs is a sense of ownership. In Ultima Online, players didn't have to grind through levels (tho we did have to grind skills), billions of items tiered by their level and utility that we quickly had to replace as we progressed, achievement points to tally, reputation grinding, and many more nuisances that seem to plague every MMO since Blizzard launched the behemoth that is World of Warcraft. In UO, players could own land, build their homes (and fully customize it), craft weapons that were meant to last - and in fact, apart from a few different materials that gave a boost to skills, stats or defensive bonuses, armor and weapons were few but significant, and there was a sense of community and also danger. We could build cities in the wilderness, but venturing out of town was always dangerous as player killing meant something.

I think the more modern MMOs distance themselves from Ultima Online, the worst they get. Not that progress hasn't been made, but apart from a few improvements, many of today's "features" made MMOs somewhat dull. Eve Online (crazy to compare it to UO, I know, but it makes some sense when you think about it) is the only modern MMO to tackle the mechanics with originality (if not overly capitalistic, but at least Eve gives you a huge sense of accomplishment and consequence to your actions).

If only developers looked to the past a bit and rescued some of the good, then things would be different.
  • Why? Why is this game not coming out for PS3 like Final Fantasy XIV Online?
  • I hope this game fails. There is no reason to RUIN the elder scrolls series with this obvious cash grab. Not every franchise needs a mmo.Look at TOR and how the EA/bioware devils ruined KOTOR story.I hope that there will be another sp title but i HIGHLEY doubt it.This game graphics are crap and from what they said it is turn based.BORING and not needed in ANY of the elder scrolls.Thank you Bethesda for being just another studio to ruin a great franchise.
  • Ebonheart all the way! Having two of the coolest races ever, the Dunmer and the Nords, makes them an obvious choice.
  • Take away the monthly sub and I might give it a second glance.

  • Do you guys know which alliance your picking? I'm going to be playing for the ebonheart pact...
