Microsoft Play Brings Xbox Live Arcade Games To Windows 8

Windows 8 is pushing a more console-style interface to PCs, and soon you'll able to purchase a small selection of Xbox Live Arcade games through your PC.

The video below serves as the announcement for the Microsoft Play service, and shows off some of the interface for purchasing games. The service's official site also details the 15 games that will be available through Microsoft Play at launch, which include Pinball FX 2, Ilomilo, Skulls of the Shogun, The Gunstringer: Dead Man Running,  and HydroThunder: Hurricane. Oh, and you can also buy Microsoft Minesweeper!

While the initial offering is fairly sparse, Microsoft promises that, as the service matures, more XBLA games will be added to the Microsoft Play storefront.

  • Buy Minesweeper? It's not preloaded anymore?
  • No Shadow Complex?...Well, not "upgrading" than.
  • Unless windows 8 can let me play an xbox disc, its not worth my time.
  • Huh... I'll go and check it in a bit, then.

  • Eh, maybe it'll be alright...

  • Windows8 is awful. I'd rather use win95
  • Why is windows 8 so bad? Did I miss something?
  • nice try microsoft, but that's not going to make windows 8 not completely suck ass for desktop users.
  • xblig too?

  • Great for the X-bots.

  • When they add Dishwasher, Shadow complex and Dust Elysian tale, I will finally have a reason to upgrade.
  • Are they kidding? Cue Google lawsuit in 5....4...3..2.1
  • Seems funky to me

  • interesting...

  • I'd appreciate it if stuff that you bought on the 360 would be free for windows 8 if it becomes available.

  • Halo 3. Is it -that- hard to port it? Do I need to push the "convert to PC" button for you?
  • Also... only games that seem stand out to me on there: Toy Soldiers, ilomilo, and Skulls of Shogun. The rest are rather niche or throwaway.

  • Long live Play?...
  • I am a console gamer, I have an Xbox 360. I also have a PC that I use regularly, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that trying to turn PCs into consoles is the most HORRIBLE idea I've heard in the last few years. There is nothing in the world more ass-backwards. The last thing I'd want is to navigate menu after menu and pushing past asinine advertisements; all trying to find the smallest thing on my PC, because that's sure as hell what happens on my Xbox. Windows 8 will crash and burn for Desktops, and rightfully so. But hey, I am sure grandma will love it on her tablet. Oh wait.. she has an ipad )=
  • I honestly do not see any reason for people to hate on Windows 8. I bought my ISO Image CD's with complete discomfort that there would be a chance of disappointment, but then again, I also had the Beta Versions and was satisfied with them.

To my surprise, it was better than expected. Some say that it's fairly suited for a tablet, but the Start window and several apps that I use from there seem to be the only thing that I can think of that are more suitable for Tablets. However, I can do so much in the Desktop Mode like in Win7.

And you can also change Windows by simply hovering the mouse to the left-side of the screen, which makes it comforting that I can be chatting and playing a game without closing the window/app. And having these games to buy later is a good upgrade. I've been playing PC games with my Xbox Live account, unlocking achievements and still chat with my friends.

Nothing is completely lost with this Win8 Upgrade. Not seen anything that would cause a sore in my eyes, and all it has done is increase my time with it. I should say other people to give it one rough chance. It is not a failure, it is actually somewhat entertaining.
