Deep Silver Apologizes For Its Ridiculous Dead Island Riptide Collector's Edition

The UK version of Dead Island Riptide's collector's edition, the Zombie Bait Edition, has caused developer Deep Silver, to issue an apology on Twitter. I guess they were a little surprised that people were a little put off by the idea of owning a bloody, dismembered, beheaded, female torso. You can check out the full statement below:

A statement on the Zombie Bait Edition:

We deeply apologize for any offense caused by the Dead Island Riptide “Zombie Bait Edition”, the collector’s edition announced for Europe and Australia. Like many gaming companies, Deep Silver has many offices in different countries, which is why sometimes different versions of Collector’s Editions come into being for North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.

For the limited run of the Zombie Bait Edition for Europe and Australia, a decision was made to include a gruesome statue of a zombie torso, which was cut up like many of our fans had done to the undead enemies in the original Dead Island.

We sincerely regret this choice. We are collecting feedback continuously from the Dead Island community, as well as the international gaming community at large, for ongoing internal meetings with Deep Silver's entire international team today. For now, we want to reiterate to the community, fans and industry how deeply sorry we are, and that we are committed to making sure this will never happen again.

  • Not sure what's more embarrassing, the collectors edition or having to apologize about it
  • Now the question is who thought this would ever be a good idea ever under any circumstances ever?
  • I honestly saw nothing wrong with the zombie torso. I guess you could claim it's offensive being a female...corpse?....but we have both male and female zombies in the game. *shrugs*
  • I wish it came here, actually, I wouldn't have minded that. Oh well, I do think it is a bit ridiculous that the United States as a whole doesn't care about extremely graphic violence but a tit is flashed and all hell is broken loose
  • To be honest, I don't feel they should have to apologize for this, just my opinion though.
  • I love how the warning that it may offend people is smaller than the bloody torso. By the time anybody who would be offended by the content already would be offended before they saw it.

  • Quite sad if a company can't even stick to its own decision for more than a single day....

  • AWWW I loved the half naked women.
  • If it offends you, don't buy it. O.o
  • That was disgusting. I'd hate to see what the american version looks like
  • I don't even know how they thought this was a good idea or why anyone would actually want that...
  • I think it's pretty cool!

  • The statue is a little off-putting, but not really worth such a big reaction. The fact that they would try to sell it in Australia is just idiotic, though.
  • See nothing wrong with it... it's clearly intended for adults who know what they're paying for. Grow some balls people. There should be no apologies as no harm was done. Mass Effect 3 ending on the other hand...
  • I hate seeing Deep Silver apologizing for this. There's nothing to apologize for here.
  • I'm a collector's edition fan but this is just way too much. Whoever thought this was a good idea(which was obviously more than one person) is just wrong. I don't see why anyone would want this. At least they apologized.
  • hahaha

  • I don't know but I didn't find it very offensive. There is more graphic violent and sexual material all throughout the different forms of media and, for the most part, the majority of people don't bat an eye. Maybe it's just the perspective I'm viewing it from, but I don't see the controversy here.
