Mobster Sim Omerta: City of Gangsters Goes Gold

Kalypso Media USA is preparing for the February 12th release of Omerta: City of Gangsters for Xbox 360 and PC, and they've sent out a press release today confirming that the game has gone gold.

Set in 1920s Atlantic City, the new title from the Tropico 4 developer places gamers in the shoes of a mob boss during the days of Prohibition. The mobster sim promises to mix turn-based combat with "strategic city-conquest gameplay." From the sounds of it, the game may have two layers in a similar manner as last fall's XCOM: Enemy Unknown. We loved the format when we were killing aliens, so a mobster game that scratches that same itch may be interesting.

  • I'm interested. Love the theme, and XCOM has me all fired up for strategic games.

  • I am liking how this game looks. Also, is this the first game to have the KKK in it? It seems like something that would lead to a storm of controversy.
  • Slow news day?
  • KKK?
  • 1920s prohibition mobster story set in Atlantic City? Sounds like a Boardwalk Empire game. Anyway, I love Tropico and XCom, so this could be pretty awesome.
  • im sorry but could they have picked a screenshot without a KKK guy in it

  • Omerta? Does this have anything to do with Vampire?
  • Being a mob movie fan, and someone who has a family history with the Italian Mafia, this'll be a fun playthrough!

  • I'm interested. XCOM was awesome

  • After playing Kalypso's Tropico games, and more recently Firaxis' XCOM update, I've definitely been following Omerta with interest.

Edit: also I don't really get why some of you kids are taking issue with the KKK being included as an 'evil'/enemy faction; Nazis have been the perfect cannon-fodder for gamers for decades- the game isn't saying anything about them or their ideas is good, just having you 'fill them full'a lead.'
  • Hmm...
  • I don't know... I've been following this game for a while and aren't convinced that it'll be good. It looks like and (from videos) plays like the classic Fallout games, but the whole feel very dated. The graphics look dated and the animations don't impress. XCOM was a fabulous game, I'm not sure if this game should be compared to it so often. I love the classic Fallout games. but I'll be holding back on Omerta until I see some reviews.
  • From the screen shot, are ya gonna play racist KKK guys too?. . .
  • oh man that kkk guy took out scarface with a black wishbone oh the irony lol

  • Sooo, is it browser based, or an actual game?
  • how do you decide your own game has "gone gold" before it is released?

I will totally play a turn-based mafia sim in the vein of XCOM. I hope it's good!

  • i completely agree with hang-time marchiafava

  • oooh interesting!
