NRA Does Not Understand Irony, Releases iOS Shooting Game

Hey, remember last month when that unspeakably horrible event happened in Connecticut? Well, the NRA apparently doesn't. You see, the organization's Wayne LaPierre placed much of the blame on violent video games, singling out titles like Bulletstorm, Splatterhouse, and Mortal Kombat in a reactionary press conference. Now, less than a month after the shooting in Newtown, the company has released a shooting game for iOS.

NRA: Practice Range is now available for iPhone and iPad, and offers virtual shooting ranges, nine firearms, and all sorts of NRA information and resources. We've reached out to publisher Medl Mobile to see if they have any comment regarding the apparent hypocrisy, and will update this story if they get back to us with an official word.

  • Herpidity derp. The irony burns.
  • Well to be fair, it's far from a violent video game. I don't agree with what they're saying about video games but this doesn't neccasarily contradict their statement. Seriously, it's a game about shooting targets. Is it fun? Probably not. It's definitely not violent though.

    NRA Jam.
  • If they were attacking/blaming games in general I could see that.  January sure sucks for news desks...

  • Wow, just wow. I get it's not violent, but still.
  • Pfft, this is the best stuff I've seen all day.

  • I don't understand what they're trying to say by putting this out. If someone could evaluate, it would really help.
  • Ha. PETA comes to mind.

EDIT: Well from what I've seen they have gun safety tips. So if they try and instill gun safety into the mind of younger children I cannot see how that's a bad thing.

I dunno, maybe it's because I'm pro-2nd Amendment but this article sorta seems ridiculous. NRA's argument was against violent games which this doesn't seem to be.

Obviously the NRA's argument was quite bogus (as is the NRA itself), but I wouldn't consider this hypocrisy. Then again, you are shooting out targets shaped like humans.
  • Hell, even Mario is more violent. You commit animal genocide and the bullets actually kill things XD
  • You know what? I've been thinking about this today, and I don`t want to be someone who can't admit they're wrong. I think I was speaking in hyperbole as a result of my dislike for the people who run the NRA, and I shouldn't have let emotion become a factor in my argument. I think somewhere along the way I switched what I was arguing about altogether. Thank you, good friends, for partaking in some jolly debate with me.
  • Hopefully they get back to you guys. I'd love to hear what they have to say about something this ridiculous.
  • Hahahahahaha! Unbelievable.

  • Fail to see the irony as they were singling out violent video games.
  • This game is totally family-friendly and in no way a violent video game. There may be guns but there's no killing in this game. Guns don't kill people, death kills people. It's a medical fact.
  • uh, not only is this NOT a violent video game, and clearly a target practice game. but the shooting at "Connecticut" has so many flaws with there "Facts" caused by overly dramatic and clearly FALSE statements meant to embrace anti gun agenda's; that its a JOKE to even mention it outside of mourning for loses.
  • The irony, it BURNS!!!

  • Simple solution: challenge Wayne LaPierre to a virtual gun duel on IoS, high noon. See which opponent become mentally wrecked first after winning.

    For ages 4 and up.
  • I'm surprised they didn't make it a hunting game so that it could be vaguely ironic. Dan obviously doesn't understand anything, just like the NRA. Why did they think it was a good time to release this?
  • Right...because target shooting is the same thing as ripping your opponents spine out or vaporizing someones head into a bloody mist. This has to be one the most idiotic things I've ever seen from GI.
