The lights are on
CCP Games' ambitious plan to merge the world of EVE Online and its upcoming shooter Dust 514 is inching closer to reality. The studio has already migrated EVE players to new Dust 514-friendly servers, and now an open Dust beta is almost here.
All PlayStation 3 owners will be able to download the game's open beta on January 22. Those players will be able to battle on the ground in the first-person shooter component of the game, while EVE players will continue to battle in space and hone their online politicking.
“The launch of the Dust 514 open beta is another step towards our long-term vision for CCP and EVE,” says Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CCP's CEO. “But this is just the beginning. As we have done with EVE Online, in the coming weeks, and for years to come, we will continually improve upon and add to the Dust 514 experience, as well as add deeper integration between the two games and their communities.”

Super excited about the Open Beta. I have been playing the Closed Beta since last June. Every new build has had some decent improvements to offer and the latest build definitely feels great. As a Free-to-Play title you should not expect 60 frames per second like COD or detailed destructible environments like BF3. But what the game lacks in those characteristics it more than makes up for in extensive customization of character skills, equipment and vehicles. The maps are quite large too. Best of all, the game promises to only get better with continuous support and updates that will not cost you one red cent. The FPS mechanics are decent...not perfect, but getting there. I am sure it will not be for everyone and as one of the most comprehensive shooters I have ever played it will take some time to adjust to all the nuances. But if you give it a chance you will realize just how special it can be. About 30 of my clanmates have been running a Corporation through the Closed Beta and are happy to welcome 100's more that will be able to finally participate in the Open Beta. Looking to take New Eden by storm!!
I've been playing the closed beta for about 4 months and it is a blast! I recommend this game for anyone looking for a fps that requires actual skill.
At the rate they update and fix issues I think it'll be pretty good when the official release date hits.
looks exciting. gonna give it a try.
