Dust 514's Open Beta Coming Next Week

CCP Games' ambitious plan to merge the world of EVE Online and its upcoming shooter Dust 514 is inching closer to reality. The studio has already migrated EVE players to new Dust 514-friendly servers, and now an open Dust beta is almost here.

All PlayStation 3 owners will be able to download the game's open beta on January 22. Those players will be able to battle on the ground in the first-person shooter component of the game, while EVE players will continue to battle in space and hone their online politicking.

“The launch of the Dust 514 open beta is another step towards our long-term vision for CCP and EVE,” says Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CCP's CEO. “But this is just the beginning. As we have done with EVE Online, in the coming weeks, and for years to come, we will continually improve upon and add to the Dust 514 experience, as well as add deeper integration between the two games and their communities.”

  • I played the closed beta for Dust 514. While I enjoyed it, I most likely won't play the open beta or purchase the game. I would be more interested in the game if I still played Eve Online, but I cut ties with that game in 2010. I do miss it though. I had a lot of fun with it.
  • Looking to try out this game. I hear too many online stories regarding the online EVE community that makes me reluctant to play it, lol. Wouldn't mind giving Dust a shot, though.
  • The most revolutionary game in years!

  • This excites me.

  • I played the Beta for PS Plus members. Din't really like it. Maybe this will be better.
  • I was wondering when this would be available... Well, thank you for answering it Jeff!

  • Interested in checking this out, but it comes out the same day as Ni No Kuni... Not sure I'll have time for beta testing.

This will be an interesting experiment, and hopefully a sign of the diverse kinds of gameplay experiences next-gen will offer.
  • The recent rebuild did iron out a few issues, but it hasn't really stopped the game from being sub par gameplay wise. It's just not that fun. I know it's a beta but it's got a long way to go before it becomes a good game. Planetside 2 is very similar (minus the EVE link), and it plays a hell of a lot better.
  • Ashaman7791...

I'll be on by the weekend if anyone wants to join!

  • I'm definitely interested, and since it's free to play, why not? I just hope the gun play is solid.

  • I was part of the closed beta on this thing and I wasn't impressed. It's not even that it's truly bad, it's just lackluster as far as a multiplayer FPS goes and there are definitely better alternatives out in the game'o'sphere. I've got other gripes about it, but most of it is stuff that they really can't do anything about at this point in development, so there's no point in bringing it up.
  • As an EVE player, let me say that I cannot wait to send down orbital bombardments onto the hapless enemies below. I've been waiting to shoot at planets for a long time.
  • I'll see what it has to offer, but it's going to take a lot to make it worth the brutal harshness of losing everything on you at every death in a multiplayer only game. Most people will at least be wary and careful and see the value in communication, hopefully.
  • Definitely gonna try this out.

  • Can't wait.

  • Sounds amazing...but i have an xbox
  • This game doesnt look that bad.

  • might play it

  • In case anyone wanted to know, the gameplay is horrendous, but everything else is great.
