The lights are on
Back in December, Blizzard began selling an exclusive Cinder Kitten pet for World of Warcraft, with all the proceeds going to the American Red Cross. WoW players that purchased the adorable flaming kitty for $10 were ultimately supporting victims of superstorm Sandy, which rocked the East Coast late last year. In total, Blizzard raised over $2.3 million.
Hats off to Blizzard for this incredibly generous support. We would love to see more video game publishers perform acts of kindness like this.
Did you aid Sandy victims by purchasing Cinder Kitten? What do you think of the little guy?
Email the author Tim Turi, or follow on Twitter, and Game Informer.
Both this and AGDQ for charity in the same week, it's a good week for gaming.
As a victim of Sandy it is great to hear this news. People have been so generous in helping victims of the storm that its almost unheard of...
I dont play WoW but that is pretty amazing, good job Blizzard. I think that little Fire kitten looks pretty cool. Well, anyways congrats and good job.
Good luck cashing the check. Error 37 will probably pop up at the bank.
In all seriousness, this is awesome! It is not easy to raise money, and they raised millions. Good job Blizzard!
It was cool until they gave it to the inept Red Cross. Victims, don't expect any payments for about eight years.
i would have if i was still playing WoW.
I don't play WoW but it's great to see this, I'd like to see other companies do things like this as well ( and not necessarily just relief efforts). Ideas like this will make it harder for ill-informed politicians and media wahoos to convince our families that gaming has few beneficial qualities.
sho cute! lets see the media show this instead of whether video game violence affects us!
Cool beans.
Don't appreciate flaming kittens, but my hat's off to Blizzard's generosity. Nice to find a kind soul in a company.
This is one amazing accomplishment that people can talk about proudly.
Awesome that they did it, but they proceeds should go the grass roots organization Staten Strong. They're making sure all the money goes to the people affected, not the Red Cross' bottom line.
good job blizzard....and gamers for your generosity...there are lots of good people in the gaming community..im proud of us guys!!1
What I like is that they put the check was from the WoW Community.
That Cinder Kitten is pretty charming, I have to admit. Kudos to Blizzard for raising all the money.
good for a good cause...well done...
Good work
wow that is so cute. well, this is good! respect!
Whoa! Nice one, Blizzard. But can you pet that cat?
