The Daily Show Tackles Gun Violence And Video Games

The Daily Show is no stranger to the conversation of violence and video games, but it is always able to add an interesting (and humorous) take to the discussion. Last night's episode, which focused heavily on the upcoming debate between violent media and how it should affect gun control, Jon Stewart made the point that maybe assigning scapegoats isn't what we should be doing right now. Maybe we should be focusing on how to prevent gun violence.

You can see a clip from last night's episode where the topic is brought up by Stewart below.

  • That dude kills me.

On a totally unrelated note, the Beta for God of War multiplayer is freaking awesome!
  • Wow Just saw this episode. It seems almost absurd to blame gun violence on videogames. People are just desperate for a scapegoat it seems.
  • I like The Daily Show, but it's way too liberal for me. I do agree that blaming guns or video games is completely ridiculous. God forbid blaming the person that caused the tragedy. Guns don't kill people, chicken s**t cowards do. Sorry the though of someone hurting my kids makes me see red.
  • He and Colbert are two of my favorite people!
  • Love this show. And it figures they would involve video games.

  • I love the topics that both Stewart and Colert tackle, and they always seem to say it how it is. The fact that comedy shows can give out more truth (albeit mixed with a boatload of humor) in a half an hour is hilarious to me.

  • i swear how do some of these politicians get elected?
  • Stewart is so awesome.

  • That one guy that went on a rant about video games and movies. Lol. He amuses me. And then I remember that people actually listen to him...
  • This is just a ridiculous topic, blaming video games. How long have violent video games been around? If violent video games make you violent, u probably shouldn't be playing them, and therefore there is something wrong with u.

It does not matter because this has been going on for awhile, nothing will change.
  • They hit the nail on the head with the mental health issues. No normal person out there would go out of their way to kill innocent people. It's not the mentally ill's fault either. They don't know what they're doing, hence "mentally ill". The real fault is in our government. And no i didn't say "democrats" or "republicans". Both of them are equally at fault for their neglect of mental health treatment.
  • @ 4:01: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA EPIC!
  • Really lets blame guns cause here we had someone try and rob a store and a lady at the store pulled her gun and guess what.. It didnt get robbed. If you want to kill people you WILL get a gun to do it. Just less people who can defend themselves from the idiot who snapped. I live in a state where we have more guns than people, heck our last "shooting" was with a bow and arrow. Wait people can kill each other with anything lets ban it all. Guns are a tool like anything else. If they cant get a gun then they will find something else (such as bombs) its unstable people who do these things and unless you personally know when someone is going to snap you will never stop the violence. Maybe the means to which they commit the crime, but in the end they will find a way to do it and then we will always have people looking to blame someone for it. Dont take away people rights because you want something to blame.
  • Their was a guy who started shooting in a restaurant in San Antonio recently. He ended up not killing anybody and you know why? An off duty officer pulled out her gun and shot the criminal before he could harm anyone. Guns can save lives as well as take them, just need to keep them out of the hands of the mentally unstable.
  • hate to tell all the liberals but no matter how many laws you impose they will just go around them. At the end of the day only people who will have them are the ones puting a round in your head.
  • Classic Stewart. Taking quotes out of context and using hyperbole to appear more intelligent than the talking head that he really is. Did anyone else notice that he neglected to include the quotes from that interview that mention hard facts? Like the fact that gun violence actually increased during the last assault arms ban, or that violent crime has actually been on the decline for the last twenty years, while legal gun sales and concealed carry permits have been on the rise?

Colbert and Stewart are spin doctors and nothing more. Don't kid yourself into believe that they are any more impartial than any other media talking head...
  • WHERE IN THE HELL DO PEOPLE GET GUNS! -this is the source of the problem hell if i ever wanted to kill someone (which i DON'T!) i wouldn't have a gun with me because i have no idea where to get one but if it's that easy well you know the rest...
  • While I disagree with the NRA's comments that video games are to blame for violent acts in this country, there needs to be a recognition that guns are not the problem either. Our society as a whole has a problem with violence, and none of the proposed actions being proposed by politicians would make a difference in this issue. Games and other forms of violent media simply reflect society, rather than alter it. No amount of legislation will alter this, nor will legislating gun control. After all, gun violence has actually decreased since the assault weapons ban expired in 2004, as have other forms of violent crime. More legislation did not cause this, it was a conscious decision by society that made it happen. Knee jerk legislation is far from the proper response.
  • There is one form of gun control I think would actuly help but the funny thing is it isn't a gun issue, it is a medical law issue. When background checks are done on people before they buy a gun doctors can not be questioned and so even though it is illegal for the mentaly ill to own a gun there is no way for anyone to know when they sell a gun if that person is mentaly ill or not. some small changes need to be made to doctor patient confidentiality or the mentaly ill will always be able to buy a gun legaly.
