The lights are on
New Wii U owners have most likely gone through the somewhat lengthy process of transferring old Wii content to their new console. While it's more than capable of playing these Virtual Console games through the built-in Wii emulator, gamers aren't able to access their classic games on the GamePad screen alone. According to Nintendo, that will change.
Speaking to a Nintendo rep, Kotaku editor Jason Schreier got the confirmation while researching for a larger editorial piece. "We are moving ahead with development of Virtual Console for Wii U, and we plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone," said a Nintendo of America rep.
This comes as great news for fans of Nintendo's classics. Your dream of playing Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, and Bomberman '93 on the toilet is one step closer to reality.

I really can't wait for this to happen, it will be so satisfying playing A Link to the Past on the gamepad.
Hah this is good news yeah i still like the oldies from LINK.
I could do this already...if they would release SNES Virtual Console games in the 3DS eShop. Alas, Nintendo seems to think that we want to purchase ancient black-and-white Game Boy games. I had an original Game Boy once. Loved it for years, but I've been there, done that.
Finally Nintendo decided to listen to one of my many club Nintendo requests, sitting on the toilet with zelda, my life is almost complete.
This is nice!!!
Nice. I have quite a few Virtual Console games that I would love to play without going through the whole "Switch to the Wii menu to play these games" process.
I hope we'll also be able to use the pro controller with VC games. If I'm not playing using the gamepad screen I'd like to use that instead of having to use the classic controller plugged into a wiimote.
Yes! Make it happen Nintendo!
This is taking a while
You already can play SMW and LttP on the toilet....they came out on GBA!
If only my gamepad reached from the TV to the toilet. I could move it of course but...nah.
awesome! it makes me want to buy a wii u!
