Meet Your Pokémon X And Y Starters

Catching 'em all is certainly a big part of the Pokémon lineage, but even the most successful trainer starts small. The October release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y seems far away, but it's not too early to start planning. For instance, which of the three starter creatures are you going to be picking?

The three Pokémon below fall under the reliable fire-, water-, and grass-type starter templates. It's tough to analyze them from just the images below, but the fact that Froakie is one of the three candidates it much easier. Froakie it is.

What do you think? Do any of these guys jump out at you?

Look for Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on the 3DS this October.

  • RIP Sony VITA December 17, 2011 - October, 2013 "You never had a chance."
  • I have always waited to see the final evolutions and stats before choosing a starter and will do so again with this generation.
  • the grass starter looks like a generic ground type. the starters usually exhibit a certain level of flare.. or their mostly green. this is an odd one. not to mention piplup, oshawott and this thing look very similar facially

  • I am a bit biased towards the water starters so most likely I will go with Froakie, but Fennekin looks way to cute, like it's gonna die if I don't choose it. Darn you Pokemon for making the choice too difficult for me!!!
  • Chespin is just the otter from the last game with a pallet swap.
  • That grass pokemon with the otter characteristics looks like it could evolve into a grass/water type. If so, that would be great defensive typing for a starter. As for the fire type starter, is it possible that we will finally get something other then fire/fighting? Hey, I can dream can't I. Water type looks like water type.

  • Fennekin is pretty awesome looking!

  • *sigh* Another batch of starters I don't like. I still enjoy Pokemon to an extent, but they need better designs.

  • Normally go for water but I think I should go for fire this time. Yeah Fennekin

  • It's a frog.  I'll be getting that one.

  • Fennekin will fit right in with my adorable team of pokemon. Together she and Vulpix will rule the world bwahahahah!

  • The frog looks amaizanly cute, hope the final evolution looks great.

  • that grass pokemon looks so lame.

    he might be the strongest

  • Looking good, Froakie is my favourite and I usually don't choose water starters.

  • Cool another Pokémon adventure. Let me guess, I'm 10 years old, I've never seen a Pokémon before. DON'T GO IN THE LONG GRASS! Here have one. There's something about you. Here, complete an encyclopedia on Pokémon. Walk north kid. Fight other trainers whose strategy is to use 3 Pidgeys in a row, followed by a Rattatta.
  • I'm so glad the series is finally making the jump to 3D. Those battle animations look really nice as well. Too bad I don't have a 3DS :(
  • I always pick the fire type so i'm going with that

  • The fire starter actually looks fine. It has a nice Vulpix vibe to it. I'll be picking that one. The other two looks stupid right now, so its gonna take time to get used to them.

I'll also probably be picking up Pokémon Y. That legendary looks awesome

  • I typically go with grass, but I think this time I'd choose Fennekin.  Although I'd have to see what the starters look like in their evolved forms first.

  • I actually kinda like all of them.
