Pokémon X And Y Coming To 3DS Worldwide In October

Nintendo has announced the latest entries in the Pokémon series during a special worldwide Nintendo Direct broadcast. In it, company president Satoru Iwata revealed Pokémon X and Y for the 3DS.

The biggest changes appear to be with the game's transition to a fully 3D world. A trailer was shown during the announcement, in which you can see the camera dramatically panning and zooming to highlight the action. Battles also take on a more visually dynamic look.

The other substantial change is that the game will be available in October worldwide. As Iwata said in his presentation, Pokémon games have traditionally been released in Japan first, with localized versions trickling out a year and a half or so later. The new simultaneous launch could prove to be quite exciting for U.S. fans in particular, who will no longer be able to rely on translated walkthroughs and guides to navigate through the game's world.

We'll have more information on the game throughout the day and the months leading up to its release. In the meantime, take a look at the trailer.

  • I love that Nintendo is going for the Simultaneous release this time around.

  • Woah! Yes! Finally, a reason to get a 3DS!
  • people have been asking for this for so long.
  • I figured it would be a 3DS Pokemon. People have definitely been asking and waiting patiently for this.
  • Meh, hoped for Pokémon Dusk, Dawn and Twilight.
Digging the look of the new starters and, especially, the legendaries.
  • Why must October be so far away?!
  • Didn't Pokemon Revolution on the Wii let you customize your character to make him/her look the way you want? The male protagonist looks like Black with sunglasses, I'm just saying if you had the option to customize your character in this new 3D game, that would be grand.
  • The last picture looks like Star Wars. That aside, even though I don't have a 3DS, I'll be very interested to see what becomes of this, it looks pretty good.

  • MAGIKARP IS BACK!!! EAT IT LOSER POKEMON!!!!
  • Pokemon Chromosomes looks interesting but incredibly pixelated.
  • Looks like Pokemon XD. I think I'll pick it up.
  • graphics look a bit rough around the edges but ....finally a 3d pokemon ( instead of 2d spirts not the 3d 3d i couldn't care about that)
  • Innovation from Nintendo always is worth the hype!
  • wooooow hell yes, haven't played a pokemon game since gold, this looks nice
  • Anyone else thinking that the X legendary (the deer-like one) looks just like the deer/stag god from Princess Mononoke?
  • Finally another game I'm willing to get for the 3ds. My 3ds has been collecting dust after beating zelda 5 times, and waiting for Luigi's mansion. Luigi's Mansion will keep me busy till then.
  • This pretty much what people have been waiting on (I myself one of them), a FULL 3D POKEMON GAME! It looks awesome and I can't wait to get it. I'm nearly done with Black 2, and we gladly wait for this game as I have enjoyed Black 2 quite a bit. My one complaint about Black 2 are the top down view of the large cities, I mean it's ok, but I don't really like the way they're set up. I'm also assuming all of the lines from the Pikachu in the video meant worldwide simultaneous release, but could it also mean some sort of "different" multiplayer than what we already have? Who knows, I just know I'm glad this happened, and I'm glad the rumor I heard was wrong. A source I read yesterday said this would be called Pokemon RAINBOW, but every other detail they had given was correct: that it would be full 3d, the character models would have deep black lines, etc... Bring on October!!!

  • I can't tell if I hate the name of the game or the starters more.... Probably the starters.
  • I'm not the biggest Pokemon fan, but I can understand why fans of the franchise would be excited about this.  It actually looks like it'll be pretty fun, and it has a charming art style to back it up.
