Iwata Says Wii U Sales Are Steady

If you braved the malls this past holiday season, you may have noticed that Wii Us were still on many shelves. Nintendo is certainly aware of that, but don't think the company is considering the system's launch a failure or even a disappointment.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata told Reuters that people shouldn't take that availability the wrong way. "At the end of the Christmas season, it wasn't as though stores in the U.S. had no Wii U left in stock, as it was when Wii was first sold in that popular boom," he said. "But sales are not bad, and I feel it's selling steadily."

He declined to provide specific figures, but according to the Japanese magazine company Enterbrain, Wii U sales in Japan have exceeded 600,000 units in December alone.
