The lights are on
It is now officially 2013, so let's begin the speculation about the rest of the year. Will we see new consoles from Sony and Microsoft?
The Xbox 360 released in November 2005, and the PlayStation 3 in November 2006. Are eight and seven years a long enough life cycle for home consoles? Or would you like to hold out a little bit longer? And how does the Wii U fit into all this? And when will the PlayStation 9 release? Maybe Sony will skip four, five, six, seven, and eight, and go straight to nine to save on marketing. They can just reuse the commercial below.

Why would I know?! There is money to be made, regardless of what sony and microsoft do, so it will remain a mystery until they tell us.. Twilight princess was GC then Wii a while later.. right?
I guess wii wasn't really next gen though
Well, if that countdown to E3 on Major Nelson's blog isn't referring to the announcement of the next Xbox, I'll eat my hat.
yes, good talk.
I think there will be reveals and news but no releases.
My prediction is, YES. someone will make a move on next gen.
the reason? To leave Nintendo behind again, besides its time to move forward. The current gen has taken too long to advance and is showing its age.
I just hope we don't get charged an additional $10 for next gen production.
Personally i think this year is about right for Microsoft to release their new console while Sony should wait another year.Having a 10 year life cycle,Contrary to what journalist think, is a great idea. The smart thing to do would launch on the Eighth year and support for an additional two years after launch.
But as Far as this year goes i can't wait for the new consoles after seeing a video Of some making Mass Effect in unreal 3 running on a supposed next gen speced PC and it has me excited.
fairly excited, but also not really because i know, A. it will be overpriced, and B. it's not going to be as powerful as my PC. the only reason i will probably buy one is because of exclusives
IDK, I'm perfectly satisfied with my computer, and just recently got a Wii U which has been a blast to play (although all I got so far is Zombi U and Ninja Gaiden :P). Although for some reason, I've been leaning towards handhelds lately (PS Vita and my cellphone)so I may just stick with those for the next gen. No idea why, but I've been addicted to handheld gaming for the past month...used to hate it a few years ago :P
I believe both Sony and Microsoft planned to release new consoles for 2014 but after the Wii U came out they had to re-schedule their console releases for holiday 2013. I just hope all software/hardware problems can be resolved before they release because if not...RRoD 2.0
I personally won't mind seeing new consoles, but I don't think we need them. Unfortunately, I have this sneaking suspension that the only thing new about the next generation of consoles will be prettier graphics and bigger games. For that, I could stick with my PC and just upgrade. And I'm betting that upgrading a PC will still be cheaper than Sony or Microsoft's newest hardware.
It certainly doesn't feel like it's time for another console. Honestly, I got my Xbox 360 4 years ago. There are still great games coming out and I honestly don't see the big deal about pushing for new hardware.
We're fine. Just give us more games and more time before we all decide that we need something new. Gosh, I feel like my relationship with this gen is just getting started.
The recent growth of the PC Gaming outperformed consoles in every way, also gaming on mobile devices, rise of the indie games and web browser games have an impact on the sales of big AAA titles. My iOS games look better than PS3 or X-Box games cause it has "retina graphics" which makes them ultra sharp. You may think this is not the case but on consoles games look like crap. Everyone worries about GTA5 to have like 480p resolution on consoles. No one likes FPS drops in AC3...
Consoles need to be updated in order to keep up with the "high resolution" frenzy (in other words the REAL HD gaming)
My laptop runs games better than consoles with higher graphical details. I want to play games in 1080p. Not in 576p with a blur caused by FXAA.
Also current gen consoles limits the potential of the game worlds. More detailed, richer environment with advanced MoCap animations and advanced physics in 3D would be appreciated.
We know more about the PS9 then the PS4 atm.
Am I the only one who still thinks Nintendo have an ace to display later, like a memory expansion the same way they did in N64?
As much as i'd like the PS4 to release in 2013, I need to save up my money to afford it... so i'm hoping for early 2014. come to think of it, I still need to get my hands on a Wii U too.
