The lights are on
It is now officially 2013, so let's begin the speculation about the rest of the year. Will we see new consoles from Sony and Microsoft?
The Xbox 360 released in November 2005, and the PlayStation 3 in November 2006. Are eight and seven years a long enough life cycle for home consoles? Or would you like to hold out a little bit longer? And how does the Wii U fit into all this? And when will the PlayStation 9 release? Maybe Sony will skip four, five, six, seven, and eight, and go straight to nine to save on marketing. They can just reuse the commercial below.

I look forward to seeing what the new features will be in these consoles. For example, the new Microsoft console will probably have blu-ray support, and I am sure Sony will pull out something cool and wacky for the PS4.
I don't think I will buy new consoles right away anyway, but I wouldn't mind hearing some more details on said consoles.
Who knows honestly?
Though they might be expensive, we need new consoles. The tech is reaching it final twilight when it comes to current gen tech and its beginning to stifle developers creativity/ability to fundamentally create games in general having to scale back their ideas for current gen limitations. I'm ready/excited personally :)
microsoft always goes first than sony.
Will we see new consoles? More likely we will see it.
Will we have it? Nope, not sooner than 2014 fall, I think.
I think we might see announcements or teasers but we will probably see hardware very late this year or next year. I'm ok either way, I'm still really enjoying this current generation but it's always fun to look ahead.
I really, REALLY hope so. As much as I still love my PS3, 360, and Wii (I still have yet to unbox my Wii U, so I'm reserving judgement for that system), I'd really love to see Microsoft and Sony announce their next line of hardware. Or Sony can just officially announce PS9 and blow the universe away.
Of course we will see something, but it is just a matter of will everything be revealed or just the prototype.
i honestly hope that the ps4 doesnt come out ontil next year because i just got a new ps3 and i have to many games for it to just go and buy a new software that can't play the games i already have
The Wii U was absolutely vital for Nintendo's survival. The next-gen consoles will probably not be a huge step up for graphics, except for the inescapable fact of Unreal Engine 4. If Sony and Microsoft can make their consoles run UE4, then the Wii U is toast and the new consoles will be worth my money. But I'm not ready for new consoles yet because I've fallen drastically behind because I just got my 360 this year and from what I've heard, I'm missing out on a lot.
I wouldn't be surprised if microsofr or sony showed the consoles at E3 then a week later released it just to throw the other company off guard...
I really think Microsoft will have something to show at this year's E3. Sony, I'm not so sure about. I hope they show something too. It took way too long to build back the momentum from being slow out the gate the first time. But I have a feeling Sony may be late again and not show anything until either TGS or next year.
I believe that the new consoles will be announced in 2013; there's barely a chance of any of the consoles actually being released in 2013. One year more and the current consoles should probably retire.
I doubt we'll see a release this year, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Microsoft revealed their new console at E3, with a targeted release in 2014. As for Sony, honestly, I think they'll wait. Remember their ten year plan? Well, despite a disasterous launch, the PS3 has been doing very well lately, kind of vindicates the ten year plan in my view. I do think they'll release the PS4 before the ten year mark, but not yet.
yup... both companies
It's highly likely that Sony and Microsoft will announce that they are in the process of making new consoles at E3. However this time around, it would be peculiar to see Sony make the same mistake twice in terms of their launch window. Both consoles will likely be released within the same year.
The new Xbox is definently coming out holiday for 2013, and I wouldn't be suprised if they try to make the new systems look like "THE FUTURE!" they did that with the PS2, Xbox, PS3, and 360. Sony is great at making their future products look sophisticated to the max.
Dear lord I hope so.
Why would I know?! There is money to be made, regardless of what sony and microsoft do, so it will remain a mystery until they tell us.. Twilight princess was GC then Wii a while later.. right?
I guess wii wasn't really next gen though
