GameStick Is Looking To Give Ouya A Run For Its Kickstarter Money

GameStick is a new gaming console seeking investors on Kickstarter, and it looks like it may be Ouya's main competitor.

Both GameStick and Ouya are consoles designed to be played on a television that work with the Android ecosystem. It seems that the big advantage of the GameStick, is its size. In the image above, you can see that the piece that looks like a thumb drive actually has an HDMI output on it. That's the console, and it fits inside the controller for safe keeping.

The GameStick Kickstarter posted only two days ago, and it has already nearly doubled its Kickstarer goal. You can still invest though, and if you give $79 or more, you will get a GameStick when it releases. You can head here to check out the full pitch video.

  • Huh, competition could be good. This controller looks a lot better than the Ouya one, except for those analog sticks... those could use some work.
  • yes... because I love mobile gaming so much that I want to play them on my tv....
  • Why would I pay money to play phone games on the TV. I just don't get it
  • Well, they are both small consoles with a similar goal.  Hopefully, at least one of them will stand out with good quality.

  • My understanding is that the stats are under powered even compared to the Ouya. It won't be sporting Terga 3, so that may further limit the game library moving forward.
  • haha! now I get why they call it the Game Stick.........
  • Wish them luck. Competition is never a bad thing, nor is trying something new.

  • I would be interested if it turns out that the gamestick is powerful but I highly doubt it.

  • I don't know what to say other than it looks pretty neat.

  • Looks cool, but I don't see this becoming a huge thing.
  • Looks nice, I am still going to be getting me an Ouya, but I might give this a try. I am not a huge mobile gamer but after hearing games were being developed for the Ouya (Bigger Games) I was pretty excited. But in the end we just need to see where this ends up going.
  • Wow, Ouya isn't even out and its already got competition.

  • the system is very small

  • That controller looks horrendous. I love this idea, but not that controller. This doesn't seem to be on as large of a scale or have as much support as OUYA, either. OUYA was looking for about $1,000,000 originally, whereas this was funded at $100k. Either way, it looks interesting, and for $80 it might be worth a gamble.
  • These small-fry "consoles" are going to destroy each other before they even release.

  • Can we bring better awareness to Indie games than consoles!  Everyone look up Interstellar Marines on kickstarter, it is totally a dream Game in the making with a massively talented crew!

  • What? If that is the console I would like to see what is inside.

  • I like the ergonomics of it compared to the Ouya.

  • Seems like a neat idea. I just wonder what kinds of games will be on it.
  • Game Stick! The console with the processing power of a stick! BUY NOW!
