Minecraft On Xbox 360 Hits Five Million

Last year was very good for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, and original Minecraft developer Mojang is boasting that the game has sold five million copies.

Daniel Kaplan, Mojang's business developer, celebrated the milestone with a tweet: "On the last day of 2012, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition hit 5 million copies sold! Crazy! Amazing! Great way to end the year :) Thanks!"

The 360 Edition of the game (click for Jeff Cork's review), developed by 4J studios, came out in May.

  • It surely deserves it. I think I sank more hours into Minecraft than I did any other game last year.
  • I own a copy of the game, but never really got into it all that much. I found that I'd rather be doing other things with my time.

  • Not surprising. Although, I'm waiting for the update that brings "The End" to get back into it. But every now and then, I get back into it.
  • I like Minecraft

  • YEAH MINECRAFT!

  • good for them, i can't see why anyone wouldn't like minecraft xD
  • I thought I was gonna have a hard time convincing my friends to play it, but nowadays they are the ones constantly inviting me to play. By the way, shouldn't you guys update the review to cover all the new content.
  • Isn't the Xbox Minecraft really dumbed down from the PC version? I'd feel like maybe I was missing out on something if I downloaded it on Live.
  • I wouldn't be able to enjoy it otherwise. PC version wasn't my cup of tea, never liked pc games keyboard and mouse setup.

  • Wow. I guess one really does not simply... Not own Minecraft.
  • Am I the only one who has learned enough Minecraft sales figures for one lifetime?

  • im not surprised lol

  • Congratulations. Hopefully notch's head doesn't get any bigger
  • That is awesome! Good Job Mojang, I knew you could do some good stuff.

  • Do you display these statistics in an attempt to surprise me?

  • Admittedly I left Far Cry 3, Walking Dead, Assassin's Creed 3, Battlfeidl 3, and many other games untouched last week I spent over 10 hours working on a new world. For some reason I go months without touching Minecraft but when a new update hits the game consumes my every thought.

  • Take that evil FPS devs! :p

  • Very well deserved.

  • It deserves it, it's such a great timesink.
