The lights are on
Nintendo Buddha, Shigeru Miyamoto said that he didn't like the design choices made during Pikmin 2, and that the third entry will be more in line with the first Pikmin game.
During a recent interview with the UKs Official Nintendo Magazine, Shigeru Miyamoto said, "Our main aim in Pikmin 2 was to get rid of any stress as much as possible, so that it would be very user-friendly. Well, I myself couldn't agree with that direction perfectly. That kind of nature of Pikmin 1 was exactly what I wanted to reproduce and I was actually intentionally doing so, so that Pikmin 1 could be a strategic game."
We're not sure that the change is necessary since we like the direction that Pikmin 2 went, but we'll just have to wait to see how Pikmin 3 turns out before we pass final judgement. Which game in the series did you like better?

I like both Pikmin games, so I don't have a problem with this decision.
Why not take what made both games great and integrate them together?
I think I might look into this.
2 was easily the best. It was a classic case of a near-perfect game being perfected.
I liked 2 better, but I have to admit that the first was more challenging.
Pikmin 1 was far better, but had a lot less content than Pikmin 2. So if he can make it like Pikmin 1, but with more content, then I will be very happy.
