EA Retires Online Services For Its '11 Sports Lineup

If you are the kind of gamer that likes to wait a year or two to buy your sports games then you might want to know that EA will soon be shutting down it's online servers for many of the games it released a couple years ago.

On January 11, EA will be retiring the online service for the following titles:

  • FIFA Soccer 11 for PC, PS3, Wii & Xbox 360
  • FIFA Soccer 11 Ultimate Team for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • Madden NFL 11 for PS3, Wii & Xbox 360
  • Madden NFL 11 Ultimate Team for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • NBA JAM for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • NBA LIVE 10 for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • NCAA Football 11 for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • NHL 11 for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • NHL 11 Ultimate Team for PS3 & Xbox 360

But that's not all. On January 14, EA will also be shutting down The Sims 2 (PC/Mac, and TheSims2.com) and then January 19 Trenches II for iOS gets the axe.

Considering that NBA Live 10 was the last game release for that series, this means that EA Sports will no longer have any NBA games that feature online play. You'll still be able to play these games offline, but if you're looking to do anymore online play with these titles then you better get your game on now. We mean right meow!

  • Right meow you guys! This is serious!
  • Wouldn't NBA Jam : On fire edition still be considered an online NBA game?
  • Hmm meow that does seem interesting...

  • Well, that sucks.

  • What's the hell is all this talk meow?!?
  • sports games are such a ripoff, no improvements over the previous year and exactly the same. Like an fps with jerseys.
  • Wow, it just gets faster and faster... Soon they'll be retiring them in the same year.
  • LOL They do this for people buy the new game where the only thing that changes is the title, might as well make people pay fees to play online but anyway.
  • EA= greedy company they dont have talents at making games.
  • Seems a bit quick. Would have thought two more years surely.
  • I have never played a sports game online, and I dont plan on it. So this it fine with me.
  • That's EA for you.

  • I think that's a bit too soon. They should at least let a game run for 3 yrs. But if it's an annual entry anything beyond that is just too much.

  • Wow. That's pretty darn soon. Hardly a chance to enjoy on-line matches. EA's crashing folks and its fascinating to watch.
  • Huh so that's why NBA Jam is a free title with playstation + this week...

  • But now I won't be able to go back in time and bet all my monies on Saints, come on! Bounties on injuring top players gets Super Bowls.

  • I see some angry comments from TA pretty soon..

  • It amazes me that ANYONE buys EA sports games anymore. Yet another nail in the coffin that has too many already.
  • Guys, enough with all of this cat stuff.  I'm not kitten around...

  • Oh, but I thought Online Passes were to stop this kind of thing? EA swore that Online Passes weren't just a scam to rob you of money! They swore the Online Pass was going to be used to keep servers up and running, even though it made no sense to say that used games somehow added more weight onto the server, since you are just swapping one user for another, not adding one on top of another. You mean, EA lied? Get out of town!I don't believe you, EA would never, ever consistently lie and rob and manipulate gamers. They would never sink to such lows................................................ ................................................................ ...
