Torchlight 2 Sells Over A Million Copies In 2012

The sequel to Runic Games popular Action/RPG Torchlight easliy rivaled Blizzard's Diablo III, but considering how well Torchlight 2 sold, many of you already know that.

Runic Games didn't even want to release Torchlight 2 within the same year as Diablo III, but due to delays, the game was released about four month's after Blizzard's game.

That didn't seem to effect Torchlight 2 sales much, because according to Runic's twitter, "We had an amazing 2012, and proud to say that #Torchlight2 has sold over 1 million units! Thank you! Happy New Year's Eve everyone :)"

If you still havn't checked out the game, you can get it through Steam sale for only $15 until January 5.

  • How many copies has Diablo III sold?
  • How did 1 become 2? Typo maybe? Reminds me of a birthday card I got from the onion that said "134 year old attributes longevity to typo"

  • I really enjoyed Torchlight 2 over Diablo 3 for various reasons. 1. No RMAH 2. User Created Games 3. Cheaper than D3 but it seems to me there is a lot more content. (ex The Mapworks, and NG+)
  • Sweet. Now where is the XBLA version?
  • RPG of the year. Fantastic game, it was everything that Diablo3 should have been + more. Glad to see it sold well, then again, at 20 dollars price, why wouldn't it?
  • Sales are deceiving. Enjoyed the first, bought the second on a Steam sale. I have yet to play it though.
  • It was an excellent game.

  • Pretty good.

  • This game is currently in my "installed but never played" portion of my steam library. Damn XCOM and Don't Starve stealing all my free time.
  • I just started playing this game recently and it's super fun.

  • Beaten it twice, it was pretty solid fun, moved onto other crap.

  • "four month's after Blizzard's game."

Ben, please tell me what month has possession of.

  • Great for them! I'd say Torchlight III jumping to retail is a sure thing now - something we've all speculated about for years now (going from downloadable to retail)... but actually, I just think retail is going to go away now. It would be nice to see a downloadable game become so successful that it gets a *proper* release, but seriously. With retail games popping up on Xbox Live, PSN, and eShop, Valve still showing everyone how it's done with Steam, and the Ouya coming out, we're just headed to "all digital, all the time". I'd love for Torchlight III to be a big, proper, well produced retail game, but whatever. It's certainly popular enough by now to make the jump though.
  • Want to sell more? Put it on consoles! Same goes for Diablo III.
  • How come I never hear of these games? Its interesting how I havent and its sold that many copies of the game.
  • torchlight 2 > diablo 3
  • Great game! Wasn't disappointed in the slightest.

  • It's the only RPG (of this kind of genre) that I've played, and it will be the only unless they make a third. From what I've heard about Diablo and WoW, Torchlight is the better option.
  • I really want this for XBLA!
  • bring it to the arcade and I will buy it day one....
